I don't think he was concerned about it not coming off under normal circumstances, I think it was more referencing the discussion about possible injuries from airbag deployments. I can imagine a plastic disc being quite painful...

not as much as the airbag taken your face off:cry:

See, they never put that bit in the brochure do they? 'Ooh, this car has twenty seven airbags so you're perfectly safe....well, until they go off, then you'll be impaled on various parts of the fascia...'

:D

Mike H is there any possibility of you sourcing some of the special glue used for airbag fixings?

Sorry, not a chance, not even the dealers or specialists can get it. As well as the glue, which has to be cured at a particular temperature, the badge is also fixed by spread fasteners through the airbag cover, these are used so the badge doesn't rip out of the cover during deployment

Any repair job involving replacing badges is done by one method only -- replacement of the airbag module.

Sorry!

Slimy, you ask where the "normal plastic shell" ends up. Very simply, when an airbag deploys, the front cover tears along lines where the cover is substantially thinner than the rest of the cover. The cover remain firmly attached, effectively by a hinge of untorn cover. The airbag insert inflates through the opening that rips open, and then immediately deflates. There is no plastic shell or anything else ejected from the airbag, only the cloth bag itself.
Have a look at one of the photos in this listing for a Skoda Fabia salvage, it shows perfectly how the airbag cover tears, and also how the badge remains firmly attached even after deployment

Yeah, but it's a hell of an image to take into the afterlife!! :)

Thanks for the explanation Mike, that makes sense. The previous description I had was that the cover just 'falls' into your lap when the bag goes off, but I saw that as being total rubbish since it's an explosive force that is in operation.
