Does anybody know how to or has any experience repairing Carbon Fibre.
I've just taken delivery of a carbon fibre bonnet, but unfortunately it got damaged in transit and now looks like this.

I think if the top coat can be repaired then it will look fine:)

I've sat it in place and apart from the damage it looks [B)]

There is a small break and will need some sort of sanding/recoating, it's difficult to tell from pictures, but those hairline cracks go right through the topcoat

Do you have the option of sending it back? I'd guess it was damaged in transit?

Failing this, you will need to get hold of some carbon fiber resin, and try gluing the bits together, plus spread some resin over both sides (make sure its well sanded, clean, dust and oil free), then you'll need to sand the area to level it, finially polish to remove marks. This will work however it'll never be as strong if its been totally severed off so could well fall off again.

The option to send it back is there, however a replacement is not an option so I would rather get it repaired if poss.
The damaged part hasn't come off and is still well stuck on so I think it's a case of getting the correct resin/topcoat to repair it and being able to blend it back into the rest of the panal

If you don't send it back, and the repair doesn't work out well, you'll be

I'd try for compo and talk to a bodyshop?

Yeah I know what you mean, can't imagine many bodyshops wanting to give a guarantee though on something they don't know anything about.

Blooming delivery drivers:censored:

id be really annoyed if it came like that!! delivery drivers just dont care about their parcels do they!..id imagine that would be a difficult repair, im sure someone would tackle it, its just finding someone....

Yeah gutted about it, these bonnets are like hens teeth!!

If I can't repair it , I'll have to look at other options/ideas, maybe painting some of it:think:

I'd try and get it carefully sanded back and laquered ... and if that didn't work just paint a design across the corner or down that side

... or both sides :funk:

Umm looks interesting:think:

Was thinking about a small black band along the back edge as theres a slight ripple there anyway. That way it would blend with the plastic scuttle and cover the damage as well.
