Hi all,

I’ve found myself in a bit of a pickle and I’m hoping someone more experienced with MIB2 systems can point me in the right direction.

My original MIB2 head unit recently died completely, so I replaced it with a used unit of the exact same model:
5F0035877A - MIB STD2 ZR +/NAV.

Component Protection has now been removed and the unit has been coded to the car. Initially there was no sound, but after the CP removal/reprogramming, audio started working perfectly again.

Here’s where things got strange:

Right after getting the car back from the garage, everything seemed fine:
  • Full Link worked
  • Bluetooth worked
  • Phone menu was available
I drove home with no issues.

However, after the car had been switched off for a few hours and fully powered down, I came back to:
  • Full Link gone / asking for activation
  • Bluetooth unavailable (“unable to switch on Bluetooth”)
  • Phone menu completely missing
My guess is that after the unit had a proper shutdown/reboot cycle, it performed some kind of validation/licence/configuration checks and disabled features that aren’t properly activated/coded.

Does that sound plausible?

The garage that removed Component Protection told me they “don’t really deal with car audio/software activation stuff”, so they weren’t much help beyond getting the unit working.

I also contacted a SEAT dealer:
  • £273 quoted for Full Link activation
  • £140 just for initial diagnostics/assessment of the Bluetooth/phone issue (before any repair)
That seems pretty steep, especially since from what I’ve been reading this may simply be coding/adaptation or FEC/SWaP related — although I’m very open to being corrected here as I’m definitely not an expert.

At this point I’m trying to understand:
  1. What exactly has happened here?
  2. Is this likely just coding/adaptation?
  3. Can Bluetooth/phone functionality be restored with OBDeleven/VCDS?
  4. Is Full Link activation a completely separate issue?
  5. What’s the most cost-effective way of getting everything working properly again without dealer pricing?
I even considered buying OBDeleven and trying to sort the Bluetooth/phone issue myself, since I’m reasonably confident with software/tech in general, but I’m not sure if this is realistically DIY territory or if I’m likely to make things worse.

Any advice would be massively appreciated.

Sounds like it needs the functions restoring on the infotainment system (address 005F) through the SWAP/FES function clearing system.

I'd take it somewhere where they have ODIS and know what they're doing with it.

It ideally needs a 005F software configuration carrying out then SWAP/FES on the same unit, that *should* permanently restore the lost functions.

Not really a DIY job as you need an online connection to the VWG servers.
