My pride and Joy first gen MK3 2014 Seat Cupra 290 needs a better gearbox solution.
I've owned it since 2015, over time its evolved from stage 1 to stage 2, bespoke exhaust by JP and Tarox brakes.
Power is estimated to be around 400bhp but the one and only dyno run I tried had trouble reading the power after it hit 440flbs at 3300rpm and 370bhp at 3700rpm.
I daily it but have only clocked up 50K so far.
My problem is the stock gearbox DQ250? has never been great, as I understand it the original DQ250 was a single clutch 6 speed, I have tried remaps but it is slow to change, and likes to unpredictably drop the clutch like a hammer, after a particularly unpleasant down shift on an overtake I had it in the garage and got them to take the box out and strip it, the brief was fix it or replace it, a new flywheel was fitted and a rebuilt clutch pack (I had asked for a new heavy duty clutch) £2.6K later the box was given a clean bill of health...and was no better.
With no faith in the local VAG dealer I am inclined to just rip the DQ250 out and get a DQ380 fitted which is a twin clutch 7 speed I believe so should have snappier changes, then I can get a decent remap to hold the gears more to deal with that torque better (currently not running any gearbox maps as it just makes it worse).
Does anyone know a garage that can do a DQ250 to DQ380 upgrade change and supply a referb or second hand gearbox in the Cheshire or Staffordshire area?
