finally had enough of the Leon mk2, not as nice to drive as the mk1, not as comfy as the mk1, not as good looking as the mk1 etc etc

gona replace it with a nice big diesel, thinking either Alfa 159 2.4d Ti or a Peugeot 407 coupe V6 tdi...

any thoughts or other ideas??

330d BMW fantastic engine! Although the security issues are a bit of a flaw at the minute.

Guy at work has one of these and has had nothing but trouble with it.. it's about 2 years old, if that and he's had problems with the turbo, the diff, all sorts..

but seriously - the Mk2 not as good looking as the Mk1?

Mk2 is way better looking than mk1. The front end of a mk1 reminds me of a Tapir or something, which is not a great look for a car IMO.

I was tempted by an Audi A4 3.0 V6 Diesel when I bought my leon. Never actually tried one though, as I couldn't find one in my price range. Think they also do/did a 2.7 V6 diesel, but I wasn't interested in that because if I was having an Audi it had to be 4WD, and that was FWD only.

Or if you want a REALLY BIG DIESEL ENGINE you could look at the Range Rover TDV8. Or a bus. :p

That's interesting! My dad has had a 59 plate 330d and 11 plate 330d, so around 3 years and we have never had any problems at all! Also we had an X5 with the same 3.0d engine which also had no problems!

Security issues is why i didnt buy a bmw, for professional car thiefs its plug and go with bmws. A mate of mines dad got his 11plate m3 stolen off their drive. The thiefs spent a few minutes in the car and simlpy drove off!

Get out of here mentioning a Peugeot in the same sentence as the other cars

But seriously mate - how can you think the MK1 is better looking than the mk2!? The MK1 is old and horrid - in it's day it looked alright but now it looks old old old.

Have you thought about a VW Passat (new shape or CC) or Audi A4? Or a Mercedes C220D ?

Forget them right now

Alfa is not at all a sport car

Peugeot is something like mobydick

Perfect cars for granny.... are you granny?

No please, keep your car that is much more better

Maybe the guy I work with just got really unlucky! He's thrown thousands at it in the last year or so.

Every time something goes wrong he's in that awful place where you're fixing it and then selling it.... but you fix it and you think surely this will be the last thing that goes wrong with it, I've paid out to fix it so I may as well get my money's worth... so you keep it...and then something else goes... I've been there myself with previous cars!!

Isn't that why you get warranty though?

As for the OP, yeah, I can see why you would think a Peugeot 407 is better loooking than a Leon...

I personally think the MK1 LCR is still very good looking in todays age

If you want big and Diesel get a Merc or BMW, or go the whole hog and get the king of Diesel's a Scania :p

My wife has mk1 fr tdi and in some ways they were a better spec than mk2 and better finished off.
I do think the front of the mk1 looks much nicer than the mk2.

+1 my boss had his taken from his drive in Sutton Coldfield, it'll be the same gang, luckily the coppers found it in an industrial estate

I wanted a mk1, dad wouldn't let me because they were so much older than the 2010 mk2 I got!
