I need to replace the driver's side front speaker, as it sounds like its blown. I noticed when I was butyl taping the door that they seem to be riveted in place. Is there a decent guide available that shows how to replace them? I've searched but can only find bits here and there about recommended replacements and something about needing MDF speaker rings.

Something like http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=123171 would be handy but for the Mk1.

hi you need to drill the rivets out gently! check the speaker from another source home hifi? best if knacked to get original replacement £15 20 25 ebay, they are good quality and have the crossover built in (to make tweeters work properly) then get some clips and screws from local auto shop. Turn it up go play!

Good idea to silicone around speaker edge to
metal panel

Thanks MM23, I'll see if I can get an Ebay replacement and sort it.

Have you got a link at all? I can only find rear speakers or after-market ones, no OEM.
