Cupra Leon Mk4 - Lower Grille Replacement

Hi all,

New to the forum - 2023 Cupra Leon V1 driver here! :)

The other day I hit a pheasant at about 50-55mph and it damaged my lower grille - the one that holds the two parking sensors and the cruise control radar. Doesn't seem to be any damage to bodywork or radiator etc, but the impact dislodged my passenger side parking sensor and also the radar from the middle of the grille (and broke some of the plastic). These have since been cable tied back in place and the parking sensors and cruise control all seem to be working ok, so think it's just this grille that needs replacing.

I did a search on the forum and found this thread - https://www.seatcupra.net/forums/threads/lower-front-grille-replacement.475671/ - seems there's a sponsor who might be able to provide me the right parts if I can supply a VIN number, but just in case they don't see this thread or not active, I was wondering if either one of the links below are the right part:

CUPRA Leon 2020-2024 Front Lower Grille - SEAT Direct Parts

If this is the right part, how do I fit this? And my sensors seem undamaged, so I assume I can just mount them to this new grille and all will be ok?

Car is Desire Red in case that makes a difference to colour needed.

Anything else to check post bird-strike too? I've probably done about 350-400 miles since and doesn't seem to be any issues, but good to know what to look out for just in case.

Images attached for reference (taken before things got cable tied!)

I agree with you in principle, it is the factory specification to carry out a calibration. Practical experience has shown something different.

Hi all, thought I'd update the thread as the work has now been done.

I purchased this part: https://seatdirectparts.co.uk/parts...lift/cupra-leon-2020-2024-front-lower-grille/ they were very quick to confirm that this was the correct part for my car and delivery was quick (just a couple of days). Genuine part, too.

Decided to get a knowledgeable friend (definitely wouldn't try this if inexperienced!) to fit it for me since neither the parking sensors or the ACC Radar were damaged in the impact with the bird (just dislodged from the lower grille on impact). I cable tied them back in place before I got the new grille, just to check - and it all worked fine. All the errors went away once the radar was in approximately the right location, and the cruise control and lane assist worked again.

Fitting the new grille - It was a pain to disassemble the front of the car to get to the lower grille to replace it, but we got there. Helps massively if you have at least 2 people, so one can hold the front end/bumper whilst the other does what's needed! It took us about 5 hours or so, and that's with a knowledgeable friend. He'd never done this on a Cupra before, but with it being fiddly and so many screws to find and unscrew and bits of trim to remove, it took us a while.

In short, you need to remove the front bumper by unscrewing the screws in the engine bay (and underneath either wing inside the bay, just by the headlights). There's also two screws recessed into the front of the car (one left, one right) that you need to remove. Then you need to ideally jack the car up and remove the front wheels and wheel arch covers so that you can access the 2 or 3 screws in each wheel arch that hold the front of the car on. Helps if you have a long screwdriver or ratchet as the screws are a long way back. Then you can remove the whole front of the car, but before you lift it off remember to unplug the cable that goes to the sensors and fog lights (it's on the passenger side on RHD cars). After this, you'll need to remove the undertray/front splitter (screws and clips on) and then the grey plastic trim that goes from the edge of the car, underneath the number plate. This trim is in two parts (left and right) and just clips off - no need to remove the number plate. Then, you can remove the lower grille.

The sensors just clip into the grille. They all seem to work fine, no errors and cruise control and parking sensors working normally. As they go back in the same place, perhaps the calibration isn't necessary (even though recommended?) The shop I bought the grille from didn't seem to think it was required, nor did my friend (who is in the know).

Reassembly is a bit easier. You clip the new grille in from the front of the bumper, then the grey trim that goes under the plate, put the undertray/splitter on, then the whole front end reattaches. Don't forget to plug everything back in!

Hope this helps anybody who needs to do this! :)
