hi people i hope u can help,i have a 99 toledo v5 150 that has a coolant leak,at first it was the seals on the connectors that connect in the engine bay(bulkhead),but after replacing those i still have a very slow leak, when i turn on the heater theres like a stale water smell,i have removed the glovebox and heater fan and can see the matrix in the plastic housing but it doesnt look like there is a leak there,i cant see any water entering the car via the carpets or dripping down,my questions are how does the matrix connect to the two pipes on the bulkhead side inside the car???is it the same setup as on the bulkhead side with connectors and seals???and how do i get to the matrix??i have removed all tyhe screws i can see from the front(behind glove box)but still cannot remove the plastic cover,do i have to take the complete dash out (please no).
thanks in advance

Coolan smells sweet rather than stale, with the fan out get someone to pour water down that side of the screen and see if its entering the heater via the pollen filter housing.

hi mate cheers for reply, its defo leakin from the heatin system, since it been leaking its leaked all the coolant and as still leakin just topped up with water, the stale smell is when i turn on the heater its possably a stale air smell, when i replaced the 2 seals on connectors at bulkhead the smell went ,like i had sealed the system but then after aday or so smell came back and water started disapearing from header tank but takes around 3 weeks b4 low water light comes on,i have checked all water pipes connectors under bonnet and no water leaks so am presuming its the matrix or connectors to the matrix, back to my first post and the thing i can see is not the matrix but the aircon so i have to remove the aircon rad housing so i can get to the matrix but dont know how,

Have you checked the water pump and aux water pump for leaks?

At the back of the head there's a pipe that goes to the matrix, mine was crusty with pink coolant deposits

The pipes to the heat exchanger on the oilfilter housing are a known leak spot too

hi dox thanks for your suggestions yes i checked all them, and no leaks,1 thing i did forget to mention was when the weather was cold an i had heater set too hot when i turned heater on i had steam from vents and now not set to hot no steam,id even say now i have setting on cold it takes longer to lose water from header tank.
