Hi all,

I have a pair of NEW Genuine VAG wishbones to fit but I'd like to replace the standard rear bushes fitted with solid LCR ones that I have.

Please could someone give me an idea of how much a garage will charge to press out the exiting rear bushes and press in the LCR ones?

Many thanks!

Depends on the garage really... with access to a bench-press it's a very easy job.

I've known small garages let one of teh lads do that sort of thing on their lunch 'for a drink' :D

Whatever, shouldn't even be an hour's labour. With the right kit, it shouldn't even be 10 minutes...

Yep, it really is a ten minute job, fifteen if you've never done them before. I'd certainly go with 'Bobs garage' rather than a chain, you should be able to get it sorted on the cheap.

...if those rear bushes on the lower arms weren't so big i might have suggested the old 'drifting with a big socket and a littler one and a club hammer' approach - a bit ghetto, but works if care taken. The size of those rear bushes, though, you'd need something like an 85mm and 80mm socket... ^_^

Thanks for your reply's -

Just been quoted £10 from the local small garage! If it stays at that price I'll be chuffed!

Its amazing the quotes you can get though and its clear some garages clearly don't want to bother or don't listen! - one quote was 1 hour @ £35 cash and another £200! lol

Some garages won't ever charge less than an hour or half an hour sometimes... 200 was either a 'f... off' quote or someone who thought they were fitting the arms... Even then not cheap!

Some garages actively discourage older cars and big welding, cos they tie up the ramps so long and stop them charging an hour's labour for 5 or 6 10 minute jobs an hour...

Conversely, if you can hand them two parts and ask them to put them together for you (bush and a wishbone, or bearing and hub) then that doesn't use up any space and it's a bit of beer money. :D

£10 is spot on, it's a nice bit of pocket change for one of the juniors. If only every garage had something like that, and didn't just try to fleece us with '1 hour labour minimum'. Obviously don't go with a credit card, and don't expect a receipt... :)

i did it like said above the ghetto whay socket wood mallet and heat ;)
