Reverse and Foglights

Interestingly when my wife pouts the Ibiza into reverse the foglights come on and then back out in neutral, when the headlights are on. Any ideas on this? It's a new 5 door Sport 1.4 by the way.

Is it something to do with the "welcome home" system?

No other ideas apart from that, dodgey relay or summit? It doesn't sound right.

It's not the welcome home system, it's the cornering function and is meant to happen !.

Foglamps will come on in 3 situations:

1) You switch them on !
2) You turn the steering wheel half way or more at under about 33km/h (while the dipped lights are on). This includes at a standstill. Only one foglamp will come on corresponding to which way you turned the steering wheel.
3) You indicate at under approx 33km/h - only one foglamp will come on corresponding to which way you turned the steering wheel.

If you are turning left but you are indicating right (stupid you!), then the indicators take priority......i.e. the right foglamp would come on.

I rang the dealer that sold me the car to report a fault when I realised my fogs were coming on. I thought he was winding me when he told me that, but sure enough its true. Its also metioned in the handbook (but I, like most guys, would never admit defeat and turn to the instruction manual!)

I'd have been a bit worried if they had said "Yeah, bring it back and we'll have a look at it" !!.

Yes it's quite true, the fogs are meant to come on in reverse, turning (at low speeds) and indicating (again, at low speeds).

And, like yourself, i am another one who NEVER reads the manual, i'll buy a DVD Recorder and sit playing about with it before i feel so defeated and stupid that i have to reach for the manual !!

Haha! - think i might get the Ibiza manual out and have a good read, there's probably something significant the car does that i didn't even realise ! - perhaps if i press a certain sequence of buttons on the radio it flips round to reveal a state-of-the-art Sat Nav, or maybe those cup holders heat my cuppa up ???? - oh i'm just been stupid, u get the gist tho !

I thought I'd write up the installation of parking sensors on the new Leon for those that are contemplating it. All in all it took around 4 hours, although once I know what I'm doing it should take about half that !


ok well similar thing ive mounted a parking camera and screen in my leon mk2 1P. it owrked ok for a few days i also found out the hard way about the blue black grey/black wires,the wire u think it would be is actually for the rear fog light it baffled me for ages untill i thought i would test all the lights untill i get a reading.anyway now when i revers the relay unit buzzes away like its on fire ie it keeps swithing very fast and i dont know why.the rear light wont come on atall now even once ive reset the dashboard fault light. so i have no reverse light atall with or without the unit hooked up. the strange thing is the reversing camera will work with the car turned off and into reverse but when the engine running it will make a buzzing sound on the relay and wont operate the camera or screen properly.


does anyone have any idea as my waranty ran out 2day and its just come out the garage and they wont look at it bewcause i have modifed it.lol

PLEASE HELP i do know alot about electronics but just dont know what the hell is wrong with this as it was working fine for a few days. the relay is fine i tested it and used another to double check.the screen is ok as it works ok when the engine is not running and the same with the camera. but no reverse light atall,bulb is ok even tried clearing the DTC's (fault codes cleared) but as soon as i put it in reverse the fault light comes up again
