Hi guys,

I have a 2008 Cupra with RNS 510 head unit.I would like to upgrade my stereo system with amps, new speakers, sub but I want to keep my factory RNS 510 head unit. As much as I understand there is no chinch out. Is there any adapter that can make my head unit to have a chinch out. Do I have to recode my rns by vagcom and do I have to buy a audio processor like rockford 3sixty.1 to get good output? Any help would be much appreciated because I am stuck, and I definitely to keep my rns 510 and to connect it to amps.

Thanks.

Back in the old days you used to be able to get speaker to RCA adaptors, which you could take the feed from the speakers and would change it to RCA leads. The quality wasnt brilliant and sometimes an issue finding a suitable remote power source for the amps.

I'm sure there must be better ways of doing it nowadays...? I guess there are amps that take speakers inputs also.

You can code the RNS510 with VCDS to have external amplifiers which disables the internal amplifier and then runs the speaker outputs as line outs. You then either buy or make up an adaptor cable that converts the output to your standard RCA cables to connect to your amps.

This is how it is setup from the factory when you spec the uprated audio in a Golf with the RNS510, the amp is under the passenger seat. The sound quality is very good from the unit this way. I used to run a Genesis amp to 3 way Focal door speakers with the rear speakers setup up as two 6" subs as I needed the boot space in a 3 door Golf and it sounded superb. The audio place were surprised how good the output from the RNS510 was however did say it would be a little better with an aftermarket headunit.

I've recently installed a thin line SUB, I still kept my rns510 unit however I have the following issues:

1. Every time the car is swathed on my MDI device isn't recognised and have to enter the default security password.
2. Steering volume, skip and pervious controls don't seem to respond.

Saying this at random times all the above do work?

All I’ve done is connected a dropper lead behind the rns510 to create a Sub out.
I've tested it without the dropper and still have the same issue. I'm guessing have to recode the RNS via VAGCOM?

Any help would be appreciated!

I've used a MTX Req5 excellent bit of kit. Did not recode the rns just turned the loud setting off. Very easy to set up and use and have no issues at all. It also solves the problem of finding a remote turn on using smart volume sensing.
