I have a 2010 FR with the satnav/BT/MFD.

It looks like a RNS310 (not sure what SEAT call it?)

Anyway, I want to know what my options are regarding updating maps, software, hardware etc?

Could go the whole hog and go to an RNS510, but reading through the satnav thread on the FAQs page it seems it is a PITA?

Thoughts and suggestions please?

Ta. :D

FWIW I have had a go at the "secrest" button and get the following info (haven't a Danny what it means though?)

Part no; 5P0035191

VW software version; 0227

System hardware version; H15

If you have the Media System 2.1 (it says so on the splash screen on startup, if you do), then I understand it cannot be updated by CD. You can only update it using an SD card obtained via a dealer. Once updated, the SD card is 'locked' to the car and cannot be used elsewhere.

Assuming the above cannot be circumvented somehow, it will be a pricey thing to do just to update your map data. I don't know how much a dealer charges for the SD card, but I'm willing to bet it'll be expensive for what it is! :(

Apart from that, yes you can of course replace the unit with another double-din unit - either OE style like a SEAT/VW/Audi RNS510 or any other third party head unit.

I updated my maps to the V2 maps via a disc (I have the media system 2.0). Put the disc in and installed them to the SD card. The maps get locked to the head unit when they are installed, so they will not work if transfered into another unit.

The original disc can be transferred between head units.

Did you find much change with V2 maps, like do they have full postcode and more minor roads.

Not really, no full postcode support, only partial as before. There are the usual road additions etc. and probably because of this it seems to take me slightly less stupid routes now. There do appear to be more minor roads added, well, locally to me anyway.

I might be imagining it, but the map representations for things like rivers, lakes etc. seem to be more accurate.

Pretty standard update really, not worth the £100+ for it unless you really use it a lot IMHO.
