can anyone help? i rang the local stealers to order some roof bars, and apparantly they have been taken out due to a technical problem?

does anyone know if there are alternative roof bars, (ie thule) that can fit this car, and has anyone had any problems fitting them? im wanting these for my mountain bike, is there any other way to carry the bike around without putting the seats down, and throwin the bike in the boot?

any help would be much appreciated

Glad they've finally taken the roof bars off sale - they've been faulty from day 1!!

My dad bought a set with his brand new Ibiza back in 2003 and the stealers fitted them - he didn't want them fitted so went home and took them off and found that they'd creased the roof!!!!

The car was sent back to spain to be examined by Seat and everthing - he got a brand new car out of it.

He still has to use the roof bars and the new set have slightly creased the new car's roof too, so they're obviously still not right!

One thing's for sure - they're not going anywhere near my car!

Good idea - how does it fit to the car? again, is it likely to damage the car? what make of carrier do u use? and do u have any problems with obscuring the lights/number plate?

sorry for all the questions

I don't think the ones that hang on the boot are recommended on the Mk3 & Mk4 Ibizas as they put a lot of strain on the spoiler which, obviously is only held on with a couple of screws :(

Mine has creased my roof! But maybe that has something to do with driving into the garage with the bike still on the roof?

I have Thule bars and don't use them that often due to wind noise. I just throw the bike in the back.

Ive not had a problem with my rack. Cant remember what make it is but think there all very much the same. Only thing is they can be a bit fiddly when fitting them as you have to be sure that they hooks go round the metail at the top of the boot and not just the plastic of the spoiler. The reg plate should be fine as its nearer the bottom of the bumper and sometimes removing the wheels stops the lights being covered and puts less weight/strain on the boot.

I used to put my MTB in the back of my Ibiza (seats down / out etc) but got fed up of it. Considered the roof bar set-up but thought I'd do exactly what Dave has done (ie car + bikes < car park barrier).

Went down the towbar and ball mouted carrier route.

I had a pair of Thule bars for my 3-door Mk4 Sport.

Fitted fine - but if you choose the slightly cheaper square bars you will get a bit of noise.

For the Passat I bought another set of Thule bars, but this time got the Aero bars, more aerodynamic and I can barely hear them.

The Thule kit really is top quality, and is designed to be assembled & fitted without the need for tools.

i thnk the towbar option is gonna be my preferred choice, however, is it possible to fit a detachable one to an '06 ibiza fr?
