Another question if you don't mind chaps...…...I am making the assumption, that once you have bars fitted, will the vast majority of roof boxes fit?
All boxes should fit. They are pretty much universal. The Aero bars have little T adaptors which slide into the bar grooves, then screw into the roofbox.
 
Has anyone had any experience with a roof bag? Apparently there's no need for any roof bars, just wondered if they were any good.

I've also got a family holiday coming up but don't fancy spending a few hundred quid if I don't have too.

There's no way i'd just strap a bag to the roof - sure way to scratch it - and at £90+ it's not even that cheap!

what would scratch it? If the roof is clean and there’s a protective mat there’s nothing to scratch it

There is some cheaper ones around £60/£70

A clean microfibre will leave scratches/swirls if you're not careful.
The "protective" mat will probably cause some form of damage
