Did you buy the genuine VCDS cable off eBay?

I imagine you bought a cheap copy and therefore need to use it with the software provided with the cable, make sure you don't connect to the internet either as it'll attempt to update, then break :)

You can only use the rosstech software if you've got a genuine cable. If yours isn't genuine then you're restricted to the software that came with it

Doesn't say if the cable is genuine or not but I suspect you are right in thinking it's one of those high quality Chinese models.

I think it would still work with the Rosstech software but you wouldn't be able to access all areas of the software.

I don't think that chatting on a public forum about copying/sharing software under the topic "Ross tech help!!!" is very clever, either buy the genuine Rosstech product and discuss issues on that section of this forum, or be honest and use the title "Knocked off software" and prepare to be banned.

We'll I know nothing about Ross tech and just happened to get the wrong thing :/ now I'm going to invest in a genuine cable :) I'm not asking anyone to share they're software or anything of the sort i was just asking for help as people on here are a lot more knolagable than me :) so tbh if I get banned for asking a question I'm unsure about I don't think there's much point of any of being on here :)

Well the fact you can download the software free of Ross tech means me sending software to him is doing nothing wrong. I was trying to help him get his cable working as he hasn't got a cd-rom on his laptop.
You also have to change the UBS settings to get the cable to work properly. Can't remember off the top of my head how you do it but its something to do with the com number you assign it.
