Interested to know what people think the difference in time would be between a 2010 on Cupra vs a 2010 Cupra R, assuming both cars are standard based on some reading I have been doing.

This is not meant to be anything other than objective so lets look at the main differences

1) Additional 25bhp in the Cupra R and sligtly larger intercooler
2) 19" alloys with 35 profile tyres on the Cupra R vs 18" alloys with 40 profile tyres on the Cupra
3) Suspension "tuned" on the Cupra R for the 19" alloys on the Cupra R
4) Slight kerb weight increase on the Cupra R (heavier wheels, heavier interior).

This is the main thing that made me think about it and once I read in to it, I would think the difference would be almost nil between them.

PS - Enjoy the Supercharger noises ;)

Parkers has them listed as exactly the same weight 1450kg, plus the R has nearly 20% more torque ( 350nm) than the cupra (300nm) which matters more on a track than BHP alone.

A shorter sidewall does mean less progressiveness handling and feel but the steering is more accurate and the car more stable because there is less flex so overall I would say the R would certainly beat it.

However once mapped to the same figures the cupra might win by a whisker due to the slightly better grip offered by 18"s but i honestly don't think it could be noticed around a lap of a track due to the many other limiting factors ( human consistancy etc)

Has anyone actually got a r/r print off from a standard Cupra R to verify? Not sure I have actually ever seen a plot from a standard Cupra R.

No idea mate, I thought they both had the same torque figure too but I went on parkers to find out the weight of them both and I noticed the torque was different

I know most standard Cupra's make approx 250-260bhp and 230-240ft-lbs on the r/r. Would be interesting to compare that with a few standard Cupra R's - the 20% extra torque would put them at 300ft-lbs as standard.

As for weight, 19" wheels will weight more as will leather seats. Not sure Parkers are ever really that accurate.

Thats 280bhp and 265ft-lbs then Irfan, so approx 8% more power and 10% more torque based on 260bhp and 240ft-lbs like both my 2 MK2 Leon Cupra's made.

I thought the 19" came in lighter than the 18 "

There was a thread on here a while back where someone weighed them both. Sure it was the other way round. Could be wrong mind.

Yes. But it wont be another Mk2 Leon. May buy a 2006 FR TFSi DSG and make it in to a track car though with all the bits I have spare and an uprated engine.

The 19" Potenza rims weight about 9 kg. I can promise you that the 18" Orion rims weight more.

OK - Lets assume they are the same weight overall. Difference is now 19" wheels vs 18" wheels and 20bhp and 20ft-lbs more on the Cupra R.
