Some great work there.

Didn't have chance to look at all of your threads but how hard do you find the paintwork? I need to do my paintwork sometime (dealer made hash of it) and need to know what pad to start out with.

Will be using Menzerna IP (one of the older ones though) and a Porter Cable.

Cheers,

Depends which paint work your refering to. VAG paint, more specifically SEAT paint is hard but certainly not as hard as BMW paint.

With a heavy polishing pad and menzerna 106FA you can get pretty good results if you work on small areas, make sure the polish is broken down properly and finally burnish the finish to get a good shine.

Sorry, it is VAG paint. 56 plate Ibiza. Have worked on BMW paint.

I had a go a few weeks ago and thought I did a good job, but think I only really burnished the surface tho as the paintwork relfections look much nicer but you can still see some deep swirls in good light.

Trying working on smaller areas. With experience you will learn the working times of the polishes, what speed you should be using and what cut to get those deeper swirls out.

DetailingWorld is a good place to start. :)

I think I need some new pads TBH. Tend to use the smaller spot pads as prefer working with them.

I go on DW occasionally, actually been a member since Oct 06 but found it's got quite clicky over the last 18 months or so, so more of a lurker these days.

Different pads yield different results on different polishes. I have 3 sets of pads for one polish as I get 3 different results.

Menzerna Polishing Pad is a good heavy polishing pad to get out light to medium swirls
Sonus DAS 6 SwirlBuster is a good compounding pad. It is not as hard as Menzerna Compounding Pad
Menzerna compounding pad is just to hard for my liking so I only ever use it for deep scratches.
Sonus DAS polishing pad is a good for light cutting compounds and cleaners.
Lake Country Polishing pad is a good alrounder and same with their cutting pad.

The new Hex pads are meant to be really good not tried these yet...the 3M pads are meant to be quite good to. I have 3M spot pads and they work flawlessly.

I think I have the Menzerna polishing pad. Is a very hard white 6" pad. Used it on a BMW with some decent results.

I know Serious Performance were selling some pads off so may get some new ones from there.

Thanks for the help.
