rubber screw

As above really. Opened the bonnet last night and found this rubber screw , had a look too see where it had come from but cannot find anywhere it could have came from. It have vw stamped on the top of it . Any ideas

how big was it and where did you find it?

prob the bonnet stop thingy....should be screwed into the bonnet, just under the lip.
Could be wrong, but thats my guess.

It doesn't have an oil can symbol on it does it?
Notice any excess oil in the engine bay, lol

its probably from the GEARBOX, FLYWHEEL INSPECTION COVER/PLUG. To check for timing marks on the flywheel, they always pop out seen a few. goes near to the engine but on the gearbox around the bellt housing at the front/top. hidden underneath wires and water pipes but its there somewhere. Black rubber screw like thing like a hot water bottle top.

i think you could be right just had the cambelt done . the reason i saw it was i could smell oil burning so looked under the bonnet thats when i saw it also oil is leaking from the back of the engine

Yep I found the same thing in my engine bay next to the gearbox linkage. Turned out to be the insepection bung as said above.
