Ok, I took my car into Castlegate Seat in Norwich this morning to get a belt rubbing sound looked into on my Y 2001 Seat Leon TDi and have been informed that it is the cam belt... The cam belt was replaced at 60k as it should have been and should have another 20,000 or so miles left on it...

£317 they want in order to replace it... considering I just bought the car last week this is a bit much... I'll be asking the garage I bought it off if they can do anything under warranty as it isn't right that the belt should be going that soon!

If he won't do it, can anyone suggest where else I might try in order to get this problem fixed? I'd like to avoid paying as much as £317 if at all possible... they weren't particularly helpful in telling me how or why the belt is making the noise... only that it needs replacing... if anyone has any ideas why it could be happening that would be great too :)

Thanks,
Chris

I got my local Porsche specialist (who works on the S2 for me) to do my Leon cambelt. £140 all in for this and the tensioner mech.

Seat had wanted £250 but they were at least offering a courtesy car.

Any decent garage you trust (independant VW specialist?) should be able to handle this as it's all just mechanical.

what's the noise of the cambelt rubbing?? never heard it nor heard of anyone talking about such noise,,,
How's the car running? if the belt was loose or skipped a tooth or something then the car wouldn't run ok, not?
Couldn't it just be the alternator belt whining?
