Has anyone used/using the Recaro baby seats offered by Seat in the broucher? I know manufactures offer a line of baby seats and don't know if anyone actually buys them or not? Are they usually good value? Or is it better just to go to mothercare and get their expert opinion? We are going to have upgrade our baby seat in a few months so was thinking when my new car comes maybe we get a new seat. Also isofix or not to isofix? We haven't used it with our current rearward facing seat as the isofix is such an expense.

We have two of these: http://www.kiddicare.com/p/Kiddicare_I_Seat_Gro_Isofix_Group_1_2_3_Black_Stars.htm

One in my Toledo and one in the wife's Fiesta. Groups 1-2-3 so will be used for ages and most importantly Isofix without costing a bomb. So much more secure than a belt system and a great price.

Edit: Obviously depending on the age of your child these might be a bit to soon but once they are big enough, all of the above.

He's 10 month old so just old enough for that seat. How come that so much cheaper then other seats on the market? It looks good though!

To be honest, I don't know and I can guess what is going through your head as it's probably the same that was going through mine! So we went and had a look before we bought one and it is very similar to ones priced £30-40-50 more. The Isofix mechanism is identical. It's very plain and has no branding which will help. It got good reviews and once in the car felt very sturdy (Although strangely it doesn't fit quite as well in the wife's car as it does mine).

I think the big money Isofix ones are big brands (Such as Cossatto) and also the ones with the separate base.

I will go have a look at it. Just out on interest did you ever consider the ones you can buy at your Seat dealer?

I don't have experience with the Recaro seats offered by Seat but can recommend the Kiddy Guardian Pro 2. They do an Isofix and non-Isofix version.

It was recommended to me by a couple of differernt people, and I have to say it's very good. The 'impact shield' apparently offers better upper body protection than a normal harness. We've got the Isofix version but have also used it in non-Isofix cars since the fixings can slide inside the seat. I think the non-Isofix version is lighter, and therefore might be better if you swap between cars frequently. It should be good from 9 months to 12 years since it's very adjustable!

One thing to keep in mind is we were advised to keep using the rear facing seat as long as possible, since they are inherently safer than any front-facing seat.

We didn't. To be honest I never thought to look at the dealer with the Isofix fitting being Universal. Easier to look local with my nearest dealer a fair trek away.

I believe the law is changing/has changed regarding rear facing so they need to be rear facing for longer. Sensible in my opinion.

Yea I understand rear facing is suppose to be safer. I believe Sweden now require all kids to be rear facing until they're are 12. Sounds extreme to me.

We will have to buy a new seat soon and he's growing quick and it's getting tight in his seat.

Rear-facing for longer is undoubtedly safer but not always practical depending on your circumstances. Please don't be tempted to buy a cheap car seat. Safety standards are surprisingly soft and there's a lot of dangerous crap out there. Isofix is always preferable to belt installation. Britax are extreme reputable. For a forward facing seat that won't break the bank I'd recommend the Duo Plus. There's nothing to be gained by buying a seat recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, they only do so for commercial/marketing reasons.

Should also say, you should change the seat based on your child's weight rather than age. If they're lighter than average they'll need to stay in a group 0/0+ until they're heavy enough to be suitable for a group 1.

I've been using the Recaro young sport and Recaro profi seat for my two kids who are 2 years and 6 months respectively. Both are great seats and one of the safest that you can buy. The range Seat offer are exactly the same but you'll get them cheaper buying aftermarket as opposed to through the dealer. I haven't used any others but they are certainly easy to use and the kids find them comfortable. I have the non isofix ones.

Plus 1 for recaro young sport. My daughter has had it since she was 9mnths old and is now 4 and is still really comfy especially on long journeys. Now she uses the seat belt with the recaro chair so she has more room. Fantastic purchase and as others have e said extremely safe for little nippers

Recaro young sport is secured using either isofix or standard 3 point seatbelt. Ive always used seatbelt method and it's very easy and secure.
