Seat ibiza 1.0 or 1.2 tsi ? Problems

Hello all
I currently have a seat ibiza sport 1.4 16v 2006 . I love it , had its since 2009 but it has to go.

I've looked at 1.0 and 1.2 tsi.... but I've read stuff about these have problems with timing chain and to avoid. Should I just go for a 1.4 engine like the one I've got now ( high road tax though )

Also can anyone tell me does a tsi engine cost more in maintenance repair costs for parts than my old car?
Please help 🙏🏽 Thanks 😊

My suggestion would be to aim for 1.2TSI 16V 110PS, so a car with the later EA211 engine that has a belt driven camshaft with a long service life.

That would mean a late 2015/2016 car or newer.

With a much longer service period/life for the cam belt, I've saved a lot of money over having a 1.4 16V and the extra power and the way it gets delivered is impressive along with fuel economy.

So I can't think of any nasty extra service costs really when comparing it with an earlier 1.4 16V engine either the older 75PS or the later 85PS.

Edit:- my wife's August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL is at 41K miles and 8.5 years old, bought new and so far so good!

Concerning your search for a new one, the 1.0 and 1.2 TSI engines are popular choices, but it's wise to be cautious about potential timing chain issues. These concerns can sometimes be blown out of proportion online, but it's always good to do your research. Considering your hesitation, sticking with a 1.4 engine like your current one might be a reliable choice. Yes, the road tax might be a bit higher, but if the engine has served you well, it could be worth it. If you're still exploring options, maybe check out other engines too, just to see if there's a good fit for your preferences and needs.

Ah thanks so much. I looked at a beautiful tsi itech 2015 £6, 500, 43,000 miles ( my absolute top budget ) but the insurance was through the roof. I have to park on the street round the corner from my house. What I'd save in the road tax I'd lose in the insurance.
Think I'm going to have to just go for a Toca 1.4 sc.

Thank you.

The insurance for the tsi 1.2 I tech was way above my budget. I'd love an FR or at least something a bit sporty but just can't afford the insurance. I have to park on street around corner from My house so that's worrying .

Yes think just going to have to go for the toca 1.4 sc. :-( really wanted something nippy

Yeah to be fair, the Toca 1.4 sc is decent anyway but I get your disappointment.
Ha yes I'm somewhat disappointed.

My old seat ibiza sport has the sport steering wheel with controls nice trim. To get that now I'd be looking after paying out £13'000 when all I've got is £6'500 lol
