Hi you will have to excuse me I am not at all a car expert, so if any information I give is abit vague please bear with me.

I have had a seat Ibiza for approx 5/6 weeks. Christmas Eve we was driving in heavy snow, and the dashboard lights went out, the steering went really heavy and the ABS light, Brakes lights and power steering lights were the only ones on. I managed to get home. The car wouldn't start up later on.

Christmas day it started fine, but the power steering light is still on.

I bought it from Evans Halshaws who I have to ring tomorrow and get it booked in, as it is still under 3 month warranty, but my question is, does anybody know what it could be? Could it have been down to the snow?

any help/info would be appreciated

thanks

I would have thought that that car is protected enough enough to allow for fault free driving in snow. Seems like you lost the 12 volts in a big way, the steering system is electro-hydraulic so it would feel the loss or drop off in electrical power. I'd get them to have a look at that as losing electrical power is not handy - especially in cold weather.

As said above, i would expect it to be fine in the snow. The cars are tested to the extremes to make sure they can handle it.

I would get them to check the battery connection and that the alternator is working 100%.

Thanks for the replies, the RAC came out to it and said that it is the alternator. They asked me to drive it back to the garage, but it died half way down our road. So the RAC guy has towed it now for me. It is still under warranty so hopefully they can sort it out.
