Seat Ibiza 2010 1.6 CR TDI 3 Door - New Car - few issues I have

Good Afternoon All,

Thanks you for letting me join the forum.

I am now a proud owner of a Seat Ibiza as per the title, i'm more then happy with the car and i hope that it will provide me with carefree miles as long as it is maintained regular which it will be.

I have noticed two things with the car which i hope i am able to fix, i'm sure they are both simple tasks, well i hope!

1) I have noticed there is a slight knock/bang coming from the drivers side rear interior trim area. I have taken off the trim panel at the rear and the noise still persists. It only seems to do it when going over a bump, sometimes round a corner or down a kerb. I have had a good look everywhere and gave a tug on all but im very puzzled to what it can be, it even seems to maybe be down to something flexing?

2) Sometimes when i start the car, the car ticks over at around 700-800rpm. After i move off the car sits at 1000rpm, and doesn't seem to go any lower unless i turn the car off and start it back up. Again the car will go back to 1000rpm after i drive off and sit there again.

Any help or guidance is very much appreciated.

1) Try checking your boot area/underneath the boot floor to see if there is anything lying loose. When you hear it, try make a mental note if you are going around a corner or over a bump. Even try checking underneath the front seats/rear bench and possibly the boot hatch itself.

2) From the title I know you have a diesel. The diesels tend to idle at 1000rpm during their DPF regeneration cycle. The slightly higher idle helps keep the exhaust at a higher temperature to allow the car to burn off the soot. If you turn off the car while it is doing it’s DPF cycle, you’ll probably hear the cooling fans still running if you stand outside the car. The car will continue it’s DPF cycle the next time you drive it once it is back to standard operating temperature. Once the cycle has completed, it will return to the 700-800rpm idle. If it is constantly idling at 1000rpm like it is stuck in the DPF regen mode, then it could potentially mean it needs the DPF pressure sensor replacing. Not a hard or expensive job to do. The car will also idle at 1000rpm if the weather is near freezing with/without a DPF in place. Overall it is nothing to be worried about, unless it is constantly sitting at 1000rpm each time you come to a stand still

Thanks for the Info, I’m happy someone knows their bacon lol

The idle noise has gone back down now so as you said it must of been the dpf doing a regen.

On the creaking noise thou, I spent an hour or two trying to eliminate where it could be coming from, then I thought to myself, I’m going to open the drivers door and drive along to see if the noise goes!

Believe it or not the noise went away so at least I’ve targeted to one area.

I took the door panel off, and the noise was still there after a drive, so I put my hand inside the door and had a little play, everything seems ok.

I put the door trim back on and made sure that certain points were strengthened but it’s still there.

Very strange

So you believe the noise is located within the driver’s door area? I had my door cards off in December so I can visualise the inside. Could potentially be something lying in the bottom of the door itself, the inner door handle cable hitting against the plastic, possibly a loose window regulator clamp. Any insight into what the noise sounds like? metal-to-metal, metal-to-glass etc?

The noise is 100% coming from the drivers door area, but I would say I where the door meets the b pillar area, that’s the exact location, and it’s a creaking noise, not metal to metal or anything like that. It’s more like something needs a bit of lubricating to stop it from happening.

Inside the door everything is solid, even the door car is more solid then it was after I took it off.

It sounds like it could be the actual door latch potentially? If it is near the B pillar and door and only occurs when the door is closed, I’d try lubricating that and seeing if that helps!

I done the latch and that is fine also, I even see if I could tighten it up a bit.

Haven’t tried that area yet, maybe I should lubricate it and see what happens

It’s a pain in the ass! I’m glad I’m not the only one with creaks and other annoying noises lol

My daughter has a late 2009 Ibiza SC and it has a bad habit, in winter of the driver's door seal freezing so hard to the body that she can not open that door, so has to get via the passenger's side door first thing in the morning when the temperature is lower than freezing! I have applied Krytox to the faces of the rubber seal to prevent water remaining on the faces of the door seal and that stops that, so, maybe this problem with your car is being caused by the very poor quality of material that SEAT have accepted for their door seals - and it is "fretting" ie gripping and moving, against the door frame, Skoda also use a very poor quality door seal material so much so that it wear down through the surface layer at contact points where the driver brushes against it getting into the car.

One other possibility is the upper fixing point of the seat belt, that is and always has been an issue with my wife's August 2015 Polo 5 door, when I hear that noise and it has started to annoy me too much, I grab and release the seat belt at the top mounting area, I could have got VW to sort that but I just could not be bothered with visiting and revisiting the dealership and them maybe damaging trim on a new car, so we are left with that issue.

I managed to sort the creak by lubricating the door seal! Who would bloody believe it!
