Hi all, I recently purchased a Seat Ibiza 1.6 TDI CR Sportrider. One thing it was missing was rear speakers! Can anyone recommend any or give me the sizes as Seat said there were no Seat retro fit speakers for my car! :(

thanks

Ah right ok, is it possible to get hold of Seat stereos with the rear speaker outputs?

thanks for your reply!

I guess i'd have to find the correct one, as mine has voice control, usb, aux, unless they all have that? Dunno if its all worth it now for some additional speakers ha

I wonder does it actually sound any different without the rear speakers, obviously it does for the people in the back, but I have my fader set to 0 anyway, so I doubt I'm hearing much of what the back ones are doing anyway

Must play with it on the way home from work and change the fader all the way to the front.

The rear speakers aren't the best anyway, I don't notice any difference between it faded all the way forward and at 0, if I were to do anything it would be upgrade them all to components as the standard speakers are a massive let down compared to the mk4

Yea sounds like the rear ones aren't that important from the feedback. Has anyone had a mutimedia system put in, sat nav etc? as if i have to get a new radio to get rear speakers, it may be worth getting something like that put in.

The standard Ibiza HU already has a rear speaker output being 4 channel unless SEAT have been barmy and given the tweeters their own output!! In my first Leon FR the same HU ran 6 speakers.

It depends if the wiring is there at all ie output from the connector at the rear of the HU or you will have to run new wires from the HU output to the rear speaker enclosure.

ah right, thanks jezy, i think i'll get someone to have a look. really enjoying my 1st seat ibiza though. would've of liked a cupra or bocanegra though. next time eh!

Whats worse is that you still wouldnt have rear speakers if you got a boc or cupra! SEATs recent cost cutting is crazy - they need to take a look at what the competitors are offering for similar pricing.

Good news is rear speakers are back in for the facelift - albeit as a paid for extra.

Yea i did think it was a bit harsh not to install rear speakers, as it cant be that expensive for them to do! They mentioned about the media system in the new look seat.

It sounds awful without rear speakers.
My rear left is currently blown so i've got it faded all the way to the front as I can't stand the distorted sound, but generally I have it faded 3 points to the rear, bass and treble both at +3.
That way there's a nice separation of the low and high frequencies, and having the treble at +3 helps pull the soundstage forwards but having plenty from the rear gives a nice surrounded by sound sensation.

I can promise you all that the HU will require a software update to run rear speakers and for the price seat will charge it is better to get an aftermarket HU.

It is plausable it might be a tickable option in vag com but I don't have the software to check.

It is also highly likely that even if you did activate the stereo the wires in the harness won't be there as it is cheaper to make a harness specific to the car than give away the wires. easiest way is to unplug the lead at the back and have a look for the populated terminals.

Why does it need a software update? I had the same HU in my first FL Leon FR and as standard comes with 4 channel amp and 4 outputs, unless SEAT have turned off the rear speaker option or changed the firmware since the Leon switched to the RCD310 for MY11?

Doubt VAGCOM will do it it will be the actual stereo firmware and possibly Canbus update, but would be a very strange thing to do indeed. As when the speakers were removed from the spec as far as I know the HU or firmware did not change, unless anyone can tell me different???? Worth trying to connect a some speakers up to the rear output and seeing what happens? Bit like sticking an MDi cable in the back of the HU and seeing if it enables the USB/iPod option without a firmware update.

The outputs have to be enabled by vag com,

Also the Non rear software removes the Fader option from the stereo so it does use different software.

I had the wrong stereo replaced in my car and it didnt have the Aux in option either, had to take it back and the mechanic enabled it for me.

The head unit may not change and neither will the firmware but it can be a different software part for VCATS to install at the end of the line depending on build spec. Trust me I deal with this stuff every day.

Hope theses pics help. Sorry for the quality.

Is a daft way of doing things if you ask me but hey that is modern multiplexed systems with their various firmware and software.

At least you know if you have rear speakers or not, check to see if the fader option is enabled and you have rear speakers.... Also answers the question about fitting an MDi lead, as that will need to be enabled to. Have to admit I am slowly being put off considering an Ibiza FR ST, with poor spec a real job and a half just to add rear speakers, makes the Ibiza not such good value for money IMO

Thanks Mr Nutkin very useful info :D
