Seat Ibiza Cupra TSI vs. New Fiesta ST

Hi Guys,

Something interesting for you. I have a un-modified 2011 Cupra TSI and yesterday a chap in a 63 plate ST lined up next to me at the lights. Lights changed and off we went, I was pulling away from him quite surprisingly (gradually), he can't have been to happy about it as when I stopped for a red he went straight through flashing me the finger.

Well they're basically the same power, only difference is the ST has an over boost system, but they're basically the same 0-60 so there won't be much difference between them apart from how good the drivers are at pulling away. IMO, the ibizas are a 'bury the peddle and forgot' sort of car with it being automatic and with the XDS, its consistent every time. There a video on YouTube of an Ibiza Cupra at crail destroying cars it probably shouldn't.

The max power isn't just similar, the supercharger and turbo mean its got a very wide powerband and constant maximum torque. Coupled with the short ratios on the gearbox and instant shifts and you're at maximum acceleration more of the time.

I went to Ford HQ in Dagenham back in Nov 2011 and saw the torque graphs etc. for the Fiesta ST

Since it uses a twin scroll turbo it also has a very wide powerband, pretty much max torque from around 1500rpm

As I currently own a 2014 Cupra and I´ll be getting my new -15 Fiesta ST this or next week I feel I have a few things to say. First of all, if ST is fully stock or even with the added 215hp/320nm Mountune pack Cupra will still walk away every or almost every time. Thats because of the DSG and downrated power and acceleration figures Seat gave out. But the downside of the Cupra is that even thought it leaves the ST even in the bends the driver of the ST will be having MUCH more fun. I thought I could manage with Cupra but after a year of driving it I took a couple of STs out and week later I had ordered a new one. Cupra is efficient and fast, but ST is fun first and fast comes as a by broduct. By any means ST is not a slow car, especially with the Mountune pack it puls hard but they have a bit different idea behind them. I want fun more than DSG and daily driver things and gadgets like bixenons that I have in my Cupra. When driving Cupra fast I grin a lot, but driving ST fast I giggle A LOT and have a real blast.

So I would just say, both are good fast cars but different audience/priorities.

Hello I currently own a 1.4tsi ibiza which has stage 1, having exhaust done in a few weeks and already have an induction kit fitted. I can swap my car in 8 months and I've been told that if I want a new cupra then it's a 12-16 week order process so if I want one then now is the time to say yes or no.. I'm struggling what to do I like the fiesta st's a lot and with a mountune pack it takes them to 215 bhp and then a tune possibly 230.. the only thing I dislike about my car is the way I rev and it stays at 4000 rpm and doesn't budge any higher when stationary but when I drive normally it does obviously but apart from that I love it. I just can't decide

the stationary rev limit of 4000 is there so people dont burn out their engines being retards and red lining while idle.

Exactly, I like the feature. Revving while idle is retarded anyway IMO

Seems like a good feature to me too, no idea why you'd need to sit there and make all that noise without whilst you're not even moving.

You need to be able to rev higher if you want to launch and you have a decent amount of power.
That's why LC software allows you to rev up to 5000rpm or more to minimize wheel spin.

Yes but not everyone is launching, in this instance he is talking about purely sitting at a set of traffic lights and revving it

I know, I'm talking in general it would be nice if it could rev higher and it's up to anyone to use it however they choose.

I see where your coming from but if people could rev it high a lot of idiots would burn out their engines at traffic lights then complain that it happened. Best to not give them the chance hahaha
