seat leon 52 reg 20vt stuck in 1st gear

hi all ive brought a 52 plate seat leon cupra 20vt its currently stuck in 1st gear has any body else had this problem im not sure if its the box or the selector when you move the gear stick inside the car every think looks like its doin its job under the bonnet you can select all gears even reverse but it stays un 1st any help would be great

sorry if this is in the wrong section please feel free to move but please tell me where its gona as this site is huge

hi i had a similar prob the other week and done a lot of research, seems to be quite a common problem with the 6 speed boxes on the 20vt.

i would put money on the 1st & 2nd gear selector fork. if you are lucky it will have dropped down to the bottom box and you could get the box repaired for about £300, if you are unlucky it would have gone through the gears itself and get mashed up!!(if you were driving at the time) which would then need reconditioning!!!! about £1k for a recon off the shelf

you might want to check the clutch when box is out mainly hydraulic release bearing.

thanks mate ive sorted it now but you was right the selector fork has cum of so i refitted it with a 10ml bolt and a nylock nut seems i was lucky as the car still drove in 1st with no rattles or bangs all the gears looked fine im goin to re fit it the box today so i will let you know if it worked hopefully it will thanks for ur help

all sorted now have 6 gears with no noises didnt cost a penny to fix
