I was originally looking to buy a Seat Leon TDI FR. Cheapest insurance quote I got for it is £2250.

Been having a look at some Cupra's today and they are going quite cheap at the moment, some as low as £7000.

Problem is the cheapest insurance quote I've got on a cupra is £3800!!!

If there is anyway I can get insurance down to £2000 or under I might just save up an extra month and go for the Cupra.

I'm 21, held a Full UK Licence for 3 years and have 3 years NCB. The area that I live in is not too bad either.

Any tips or any insurance companies I should give a try? Apart from the obvious ones such as Admiral, Aviva, Tesco etc.. because I'm getting ridiculously high quotes from them.

If you don't mind me asking which area are you from, more than likely the high insurance quote is for probably being in an area that has a high number of claims etc.

Try adding older drivers as named drivers even if they are not going to be driving. Cheapest for young drivers is usually admiral.

Well my car is usually insured at a relatives house in Castle Bromwich in Birmingham.

I've tried adding older drivers, it just adds like £200 to the quote. I think the £3800 quote I got was from Admiral lol. They are not cheap at all.

Surely registering the car at another address will invalidate the insurance?
As they do put your premium at the address where the car will be kept, therefore if its nicked from where you live and then they find you park there every night they will just throw the claim out the window.

Just remember insurance companys are always going to try to get out of things. Dont give them the opportunity.

My licence is registered to that address so it should be ok.

Not worried about that too much for the time being lol just need to get insurance under £2000!

Not being rude, but that is also illegal and could land you a hefty fine.

Bu on topic, have you tried Adrianflux? you'll have to speak to them over the phone but they offer cheap insurance to young drivers with sports cars.

If you can afford it, try paying up front.

Admiral/Elephant/Bell (all the same company) give massive bonuses for paying up front, and makes them very competitive for young drivers. I paid £1800 this year with Admiral for 21 years old, 6 points, 0 NCB and 2 accidents last year (1 50/50 and 1 non-fault), and I claimed for one of them.

They gave me about £700 off what they charge monthly, for paying up front, and they were about £1200 cheaper than anyone else.

I drive the 1.6TDI CR Ecomotive (105bhp). I live in Southport, near Liverpool in the North West of England, it has a high car crime rate because there are a fair few footballers and businessmen in the area with nice cars.

I think it was massively helped by the fact one set of my points became a year older in March. Before March I was being quoted £2,500.

If I want anything over a 1.6, it's significantly more though. Strangely, the 1.6 petrol was around the same to insure as the diesel, even though the petrol has a few more BHP (it might not seem like much to some people, but a jump from 80bhp to 105bhp has cost me around £400) so it might be more on engine size rather than power.

P.S I only got a diesel because I'm a telecoms engineer using my own car, and I cover about 30k a year. :)

Also, I added my dad and step mum to the policy as named drivers. That reduced it by about £800.

What litre/BHP are you looking at in the new Leon?

Im paying currently £950 on a 56reg 1.9TDi with Tesco. Full 5yrs NCB. Need to start looking for quotes soon as insurance is up in July. Plus will have 6NCB then. Im 23 and got my dad and brother on it too.

Also found out that best deals are done over the phone with the insurance companys as online isnt as cheap, dont know why :S

Whenever I try I adding my dad and mum to the policy it slightly increases the quote by about £200 :s

Looking at either 2.0 TDI FR (170 BHP) or 2.0 TFSI CUPRA (240 BHP)

Yeah, well there's your problem then :p

If you're willing to take the risk, you could increase your voluntary excess, but being 21 there will already be around £250 of compulsory excess on a new policy.

I don't mind my voluntary excess being about £450.

There's a few lads on here who have got FR's and Cupras who are of similar age to me and they have got decent insurance prices lol a lot of people have mentioned Greenlight insurance so I'm gonna give them a try on tuesday

Aint being funny or anything but dont be a skimp on insurance! I've read some of things you've mentioned like registering your car at another address! Frankly, if you can't afford the car/insurance don't buy the car! end of!

same here mate.. insurance is a killer but if you cant afford it dont get the car, simple as..

im paying over 2000 for a petrol fr with mods declared.. 23 years old with 3 yr ncb.. city centre postcode doesnt help matters :(

adrian flux, chris knott, and all similar 'specialist' insurers were absolutely useless due to my age. they would not insure me on a 'performance hatchback' unless i was 25+. got my best quotes from RAC, Churchill and QuoteMeHappy. everything else was 4000+. ended up going with QuoteMeHappy simply because they allowed me to protect my NCB at 3 years instead of 4.

why not go for the petrol fr (200 bhp) - between the tdi and cupra? i found insurance wasnt much more than the tdi but far less than the cupra

I'm 18, 1 years no claims, parents added on my insurance as named drivers and have declared my allow wheels, 1.2TSi, my insurance is £1169, compared to £3550 last year!

Adding my parents significantly dropped the price, we also paid upfront for it. My mileage is down as 10000 also.

Forgot to say i was with admiral last year. They sent a renewal of £2500. Did a search on compare the market and elephant was cheapest, £1150. Rang admiral and they matched it but had to change something so it went up slighy.
