Seat Leon Headlights always on

I have a 2006 Seat Leon 1.9TDI Stylance

As soon as I turn on my ignition, my headlights and front and rear sidelights come on and stay on until the ignition is turned off.
The head lamp selector switch does nothing, it can be set to off/side/on and the lights do not change or respond. The fog lights no longer respond when the headlamp selector switch is set to 'foglights'.

I have purchased a replacement headlamp selector switch - it made no difference, I borrowed a headlamp selector switch from a neighbour but that made no difference either so I'm pretty sure it's not the selector switch.

This has been going on for a while, it didn't bother me at first but now it's bugging me.

Can anyone offer any suggestions to what this might be?

garage where MOT was done (and passed with this issue) say they have done a diagnostic check but I'm not convinced.
they think there's a snapped wire / short circuit in the wiring loom which according to the garage (could take foreverto trace and even then might not fix the problem).

note: I first noticed the problem when I picked it up from said garage.

Has it always done this/did you buy it like this or has it just happened after working normally for x months/years ?

I'm sure this is an option in VCDS (aka VAG COM) for certain models. All UK Polo 6Rs for example have it enabled by default as the lights run constantly acting as DRLs. Never seen it on a Leon before though...

It didn't do this when I bought it, all the lights worked fine. It went to the garage to have the central locking, that got fixed relatively easily but the lights have been on ever since.

I've searched forums and suchlike and found no reference to Leon's having DLRs (unless specifically fitted by owners).

switch your lights to the side lights and see if the headlamps go out. if they do then your headlamp switch is faulty. When mine starting doing this, that was i had to replace, there is a fail safe mech in the lamp switch that when it fails it leaves your headlamp on like the switch was set to it. like I said, if you turn on your side light and the headlamp go off, then it your switch.

Hi Everyone, wondering if you can help me, reviving a thread after 6 years!
I have a 2011 Leon FR Plus and I am having a problem where the headlights only come on with the ignition. The headlights switch does nothing between all the settings. They are original xenon's with auto headlights. The self leveling still works. I haven't had the car long and think the problem is probably my fault. I tried hard wiring a dashcam in and I think I put in the wrong fuse. The fuse for the dashcam blew and the central locking stopped working and the washers. I put the original fuse back in and it seemed to all be working as normal again. However, the fog lights were flashing for about 2 seconds when the ignition went on but then stopped. Now only the headlights are coming on. Could I have put a fuse in the wrong place? Any help would be great!

Hiya mate, yeah all solved. My own silly fault. Put a fuse back in the wrong slot testing to fit a hardwiring kit for a dash cam. I think I had removed the fuse for the lights or something but can't remember exactly now. Hope you can get it sorted! .
