Hi guys im new there got an issue with hearing strange sound when turning the steering wheel to the right, mostly at low speeds like kind of vibration under feet and it can be felt on the steering wheel itself.
So far i thought its wheel bearings = changed them still same result
Checked the axle, the tie rods, springs cant find anything at all
if anyone had this issue, or found out how to solve it, would be happy to hear. Couldnt find any solution on the forum:)

Had something similar with mine, when turning at low speed with the wheels turned, I got a sort of humming, moaning sort of noise that would go away once steering was straightened up? That could be felt slightly through the steering.

Turned out, somone had the same issue on an audi a3 with same gearbox.

Replacement gearbox oil solved the issue for me, and this other chap with the A3.

I've had the same problem with my 2012 FR for over a year, ive changed the full drive shaft and wheel bearing on the passenger side. My next thought was checking my front top mount on that side, meant to be taking it in to a garage tomorrow.. if he's scratching his head after he's checked I'll show the mechanic this forum post.

I hope it's just a loose tie rod or something cheap and easy ha
Though i can hear the noise slightly when I'm driving straight, over an uneven road, that's y I thought It might be the front top mount.
I'll let you know what the garage thinks

I already changed the mounts but still same result, hope to solve it tomorrow with changing cv joint

Been to the garage today, mechanic lifted the car up checked around both front wheels and said there is nothing a miss anywhere, he said it's nothing serious and to carry on and let it develop. He said you could change nearly everything and still not solve it. Only thing I need to do is get my tracking /wheel alignment done, because 1 front tyre is wearing more on the inside.
Have you found owt mate?

Sorry for digging up this thread.
I have a similar problem when turning only at 5 to 10 km/h in gear. Turning left or right in neutral does not produce any sound. I've had this sound for as long as I can remember, but it's so faint, I can't even describe it. The car drives normally without any problems.
It has 67,000km on it right now. Would changing the gearbox oil be a good idea? The gearbox is a 5-speed manual.
I have a Leon Mk3 1.6 TDI 2017.
Thanks in advanced.

Hi mate

Changing the gearbox oil is never a bad idea. It's the cheapest place to start in resolving a gearbox issue, and it's usually a service item often overlooked. Vag recommend replacement anywhere between 40-60k miles depending on what vehicle you have. Unfortunately when people move away from dealership servicing it's rare they're prompted to change gear oil so a lot of cars go past the threshold for changing. I'd say for £50-£60 of gear oil it's a good place to start and probably over due anyway. You've got nothing to lose ??

I had a cracked spring that produced this. the very upper end was cracked. Originally thought it was a top mount.

Hi,

I´m glad to inform that changing the gearbox oil, did resolve the sound.
I found some references online, stating that it might be the spider gears rubbing on the thrust washers inside the gearbox, because this gears are responsable, for the wheels turning at differents speeds when cornering.
So the conclusion is that the OEM oil is not the most appropriate, i used oil from Fuchs with the correct VAG references and some friction add on.

My car have 68.000kms and the oil was really black, so a change was really needed. The gearbox is now much more pleasant to use.
Let´s see for how long it lasts.
