Hi guys,

I have the Seat media system 2.0 (RNS 310). I was wondering if it would be possible to update it to 2.1 version, mainly because of the new phone menu, it is a new menu instead of the mute feature.

I don't know if this would be only software update or requieres more changes???

Thanks very much

Me too.

I have always found it a pain if you turn the ignition off (but leave the key in) during a call thne you cant use the steering wheel controls,

I was thinking about this also. Surely it must just be a software upgrade or something! Might be worth phoning the dealers to see what they say!

Anyone? Does anyone know if upgrating from 2.0 to 2.1 would be possible? (software)

Thanks.

I don't think it's possible. My information is that the hardware is new, and in fact is from a different manufacturer although the fascia is almost the same...

The big changes in 2.1 are the DAB radio tuner and the fact that map data is stored onboard. I'm not sure the new software would work alongside the old hardware.

Did anyone get an answer to this?

Still want to know if either you can upgrade to 2.1 or my circumstances add it as a new unit.

Currently just the bluetooth steering wheel on mine with the standard CD/Radio.

I established with Audi (based on the new A5 my wife just purchased) that their 2010 DVD Sat Nav is based on new technolgy/connections (A system called MOST or fibre and not CAN BUS)
so would involved a complete strip out and refit If I want to retrospectively add on her car rather than just a plug and play and adding a GPS antenna and new fascia surround

Might be tempted with the MFD3 (RNS-510) now though as unit prices must be coming down

i asked my dealer last week, and they pretty much said it wouldnt be possible. it might be possible if it were the same hardwear/manufacturer, but they reckon its not. also, they said that if they were to go to seat to ask this question, they would get told to (in their words) **** off and tell the customer to buy a new unit !! :(

Been down this road with SEAT and dealers over retrofitting the RNS310 (Seat Media 2) they said it could not be done and turns out to be plug and play less fitting a GPS antenna...... The same goes for the 2.1 system it is simply an upgrade unit that works with the existing FL Firmware so should still be plug and play as the Leon still uses canbus for the 2011MY.

Until we can see the connectors on the back and the firmware it is hard to be 100% though. But the same unit I am sure will go into the Polo, New Touran, and Skoda products as an update to their existing RNS310 fitments.

Hmm at least based on CAN BUS (well hopefully) so a chance could be done.

I'm not against buying a new unit from SEAT (assuming they will sell separately).

I'll maybe go down that route and see what they they say but as mentioned, until we can see what the back of one of these units looks like difficult to tell.

How can I tell which model MFD2/3 or RNS-xxx I have in my car currently, as if I explore the option of retrofitting bound to be asked that? I have an 08 Cupra K1 with the bluetooth steering wheel currently and looks like standard CD PLayer/ radio?

VAGCOM tells me I have the following;

RADIO - Hardware Partno - IP2-035-186A and TELEPHONE - 5P0-862-335.lbl (HW and SW partno the same) if that helps at all!

You have the Pre FL Leon so the RNS510 is a plug and play option for you and if you have bluetooth then an MFD3. The standard Pre FL unit does not have an RNS number as far as I know

The Leon MKII section has a great guide how to fit the RNS510 and the MFD3 if you only have MFD2.

Yep seen the guide, guess I was favouring the new 2.1 system as has DAB and the SAT NAV on HDD so would run quicker rather than the RNS-510 which I think has the maps on DVD iirc?

However, as the RNS-510 is coming down in price on ebay maybe a cheaper option
