VW bought out the Spanish and that was the end of Fiats badged as Seats. Think it took them a little while to end production.
We hired out a Spazio which was a South American built Fiat 127 in the 1980s. Drove looking for the Right whale in Patagonia, it was the wrong whale for time of year. Up where the killer whales come ashore to nab seals. Pesky things to photograph doing that. Then drove into the mountains towards Chile west given the wildlife was out. The downside no scraper for the ice in the mornings.
Anyhow the rental was charged by kilometre, the meter stuck so while we had done thousands of kilometres we only needed to pay for twenty kilometres or something. You can't beat a Fiat. Use to drive an Uno. (you can beat a Fiat).
The rental lady was very proud of her Spazio although I was driving an Uno at the time but had driven a 127 back in the UK previously.
Subsequently revisited when it was the right time for the Right whale. They rocked up just off the shore which you could drive out to see them on the shoreline. No need for a boat trip to see them. Whale and calve.

In the 1980s Fiats were rust buckets. The company was slow on its corrosion prevention unlike others.
There is an old boy in his 90s that drives a Panda round here. He pulls up and we block the road for a chat.
