Thought this was interesting, wonder how that will work in practice on the FR and Cupra.........although I'm not holding out any hopes it will sound like an R32 or V8 ;)

An ultra-sporty sound. The sportiness of the new León cannot just be felt, it can be heard too. The engine sound is an identifying feature of a model's sporty character. In the case of the new León, the exhaust sound has been entrusted to SEAT Sound, a system that blends a balanced sound at high engine speeds with a sonorous, sporty sound at low revs. The resulting acoustic sensation can be experienced both inside and outside the car. The perception of the sporty sound and engine power has been accentuated when:
pulling away from standstill, manoeuvring at low speeds and accelerating or braking when fully laden at low rev speeds.

The level of exhaust sound amplification gradually reduces until it ceases altogether above 2,500 rpm, ensuring that it remains imperceptible to the vehicle's occupants at higher rev speeds and does not become an irritation on long journeys so that travel comfort is not impaired in any way.

The R has a "tuned" exhaust as well with the "Seat Sound". At least that's what the press stuff said at the time. :)

Just looked through those photos, and I'm not sure. It all looks like mass jelly mould style batches that many manufacturers are using...looks like the fat ended cross between a Renault megane, ALFA 147 and mixed identity with the Altea. (I like the Altea for the purpose its meant to serve with better looks than any other MPV).

But the new Leon looks wise does nothing for me! Dont know what the new Leon FR or cupra will look like but if they are anything like the above I for one wont be buying a SEAT again. That said I'm sure the new SEAT Leon will sell massively probably cater to wider familymass market.

Does anyone know what power (bhp) the new Leon diesel Cupra/FR will be when they come out???

I've been driving a SEAT for 15 years, starting with early pre-VW Ibiza's etc.
I didn't like what they did with the current Ibiza/Cordoba, so my last upgrade was from a MK1 Cordoba Coupe to a Leon Cupra.

When I saw the Altea, I wasn't over keen, but as it's an mpv I wasn't bothered, cos I knew I wouldn't get one.

Mk1 Toledo... liked that...
Mk2, liked that as well (although prefer Leon)...
Mk3 - I'd rather be seen in a fat-arsed :censored: megane !

Saw the prototype new Leon. I wasn't so sure at first, but after a while, I decided I liked it. The WTCC look good too.

Now the offical car is with us. :wtf:

Ok, so the new Leon looks nasty. What else do we get...
Naff engine choice by the looks of it (so far).
The DSG gearbox great - provided you want a diesel.

The price for a UK spec is £17295 for a 2.0 TDI DSG Sport - That's 2 grand more than I paid for my Cupra !

And from how I understand the seat uk website pricing guide, all these new features and goodes are optional extras (xeon, parking sensor, sunroof, cd).

To me, SEAT have always been about offering all the hi-spec goodies in with the price, and still being the cheapest.

For a long time, those of us in the know, knew that the Leon Cupra, was seriously fast car at a seriously cheap price, with nothing else on the market coming close. £15K and only 2 options - Leather & SatNav - everything else included.

Look around, what do you see. Either basic spec Ibizas, cos they're cheap n cheerful, or you get the Cupras cos of the performance and they're cheap.

The UK market for SEAT sales is tiny, most of their customers are a minority, niche market, people who try them come back for more.

Reading what people seem to be saying, they're gonna loose their fan base.

SEAT, what are you doing?

(ok, rant over)

not sure if i agrea with you there, Don't get me wrong, i like the LCR and always though i would go for one, but the more and more i see the Mk2 the more and more i want it,

I disagrea with what you say about the engine line up, i think its a cracker, whne you compare that when the golf came out they only had the 2.0FSi , at least SEAT have given us the 2.0 T ( not sure if its exactly the same spec bar remap as the 200 bhp unit) .

And can you argue with any car that comes with the 2.0TDi on the optiong list.

The standard spec on the sport makes the LCR look positively basic.

And as usuall theres always the shock of a new model.

But I think as long as SEAT get the price right on the new FR and Cupra then they will not lose any fan base, in fact they will entice the Golf wannabes as well.

Fair play, i like the new one now, and every pic in black i see just makes me wanna rack up the the old debt and trade in for a new one.

and i think a lot of people on here are changing their opinion as well.

Yeah but 14995 for the 2.0tdi is hardly a killer, and in all honesty woul danyone bother with the DSG, especially as your remap goes straight out the window. Manual it is

Oh and for quivalent Golf with DSG its 19500 and that has less spec, LEon still wins.

Although why no 3 door in the Leon, surely the option should have been, may have looked alot beter too.

Yeah still cheaper, but when I bought my Cupra, it was 15K and a Golf GTI was about 20K - and I have a far high spec car, with more power.
It's creaping nearer and nearer. and 18/19K is a lot more than 15K.

Having said that, go to the vw uk site - there's a GTI builder (or was) - you select your options etc and it gives you the price. I tried it, added a few toys and got a price of 28K... for a freeking Golf !

From what people are saying about the interior, it's cheap - not what you want to pay for.
I've seen this myself, i.e. the whole feel/experience of a MK1 Cordoba was high quality compared to a current Ibiza, all cheap nasty plastic.
I've had an Altea as a courtesy car - that felt cheap compared to my Leon.

Hey, even my first pre-vw Ibiza felt less plasticy than the current ones, and that was a cheap motor, but was still going strong after 150K miles.

Been to have a look at the new Leon today. Think it was a TDI Sport.
Good thing as well, I was able to see it along side an Altea.
It is much better in the flesh than on picture - doesn't look like an mpv/Altea, it's quite low. Still not so sure about the front tho.

As per the wtcc and prototype, lets hope the FR/Cupra specs have a nice body kit.

And regarding the inside...

The dash doesn't feel quite as cheap as I thought it would, but it's not a good as a Cupra. It get's a bit ugly around the stereo/centre console panel - looks better with the colour screen/satnav.
The seats are odd and cloth is 'orrible - let's have a choice other than the red stuff - yuck.
The doors are very, very plasticy - not nice at all.

Compared to an MY03 onwards Cupra, it just doesn't have an air of quality about it. It's the little thing, the dimming lights, the smooth folding grap handles, the seals around the doors... just the little thinks where someone has paid attention to detail that makes it have a quality feel.

Well, that's my first impression. Didn't have time to take it out for a test drive, but mines in for it's 40K service in the next week or so - you never know, they might let me have it as a courtesy car.

When the Cupra first came out it was more like £17k (the 20VT Cupra) then as the range was sorted out and time went by and the Cupra R came out, the Cupra was reduced IIRC to £15k ish.

Cometh the FR and Cupra and we may see other models get shuffled and reduced in cost etc

Bring it up the A12 so I can have a go as the local dealer didn't seem too interested when I went in today. :(
