Yeah thats a good point never thought of the mods. Seat is definately out the window then. Thanks for pointing that out.
Like myself the OP has modified the car so that possibility I am afraid is out of the window.

There is no right answer i am afraid as its all about how and who you sell the car to

I also get breakdown cover from my bank so that isnt an issue.
Agreed but as I have family cover with RAC / AA (Depending on who is cheapest at renewal) for me this is not a consideration.

I would also point out my local VAG Specialist (and REVO dealer) provides a free curtasy car to me and my local trusted garage is 5 mins down the road where as the Seat Dealer is 40 minutes away.

Think the mods are swaying it for me to be honest. At the end of the day if the job is done well then thats what matters. Id rather have it done by someone i know and trust than some spotty teenage apprentice at seat :)
Yeah, that's why i said for some. My wife has breakdown cover through her bank, but it doesn't cover my car. So, it is a consideration for me. Used it earlier this year and VW guy out within half an hour and sorted car at home.

Sorry to hijack. My first MOT and 3rd service on my 280 is coming up next week.

Can anyone recommend a vag specialist around the Derbyshire area? I used to take my Fr's to Bristol Street seat in Derby but I've never had any good experiences with them over the years always messing up/breaking things.

Torn between travelling for a specialist or just going to my local garage who's a close family friend.

I'm not sure how your dealers work, but one thing that really annoyed me about Toyota was not getting an itemised account of work done.
Their answer was that they followed the schedule. I had my doubts.
I think SEAT NZ will be different, you build quite a good relationship buying the first car sold, then buying another.
They even return calls.

For a good Derbyshire VAG specialist try Chesterfield VW Specialist. He has done work for me and a few friends cars. I have been impressed. Plus there's a decent cafe on the trading estate where he is while you wait for servicing being done.

Another vote for an independent specialist from me. I had an Ibiza fr prior to my Leon 280 which i bought recently. I kept the Ibiza maintained by a main dealer and they were over priced and not especially helpful. I’ve used ‘TotalVAG’ in bedfordshire twice now for my 280 and the service and general experience was 100 times better than the dealership. They are friendly, helpful, well priced and know the VAG cars inside out. I’ve bought a few cars privately. Personally i’d actually prefer a full history for a performance car from a specialist with a good rep. rather than a main dealer. The issue with family or friends doing it is that a prospective buyer won’t know if they know what they are doing and doesn’t have the trust you have with them.

I do my own work unless a dealer is required for warranty stuff. But for things like tyres, panelbeating, etc, I'll talk to a few businesses and get a feel for their attitude. Having been in the trade, I have a fairly well tuned BS detector.
