Seat tilt handle replacement

My son's 2012 Ibiza passenger side tilt handle came off, I have bought a replacement but can't seem to fit it! It looks like it should be easy which is making it more frustrating!

I put the clip in the hanle and pushed but it hasn't "locked" and the clip is now buried inside the handle (see picture)

I think the previous owner may have glued handle so potentially there's remnants of that which is stopping the new one fitting and caused the clip to "lock"? Or am I being really stupid??

Yeah don’t do it the way I did it!! You need to buy a clip from a Seat dealer (should be £1 ish ) then push it onto the metal bit in the seat, and push the handle into that. Don’t put the clip in the handle first.

ours didn’t work well until I realised the previous owner had tried to glue it and I scraped all the glue out! Don’t glue it - it’s meant to come off to repair seats etc

That's awful, people tend to care only about fixing it fast, not thinking about any foreseeable consequences.

Thank you for such precious advice!! I did put the clip in the handle at first exacly as you did haha, it got stuck obviously.
Will follow your instructions once it gets delivered.
