Well to start off I have two mk5s in the family

One is a 1.4 sport petrol

Other is 1.6TDI Sport

I have heard a lot of things about the 1.6tdi engine not being reliable since I have bought the car  Looking to get facts straightened out on that.

More importantly, I would just like some service advice really, from my research both cars take 5w30 long life oil, what make would you recommend and where to buy from?

Going for an interim service, so that would include the normal air,oil filters along with oil, spark plugs for the petrol and glow plugs and fuel filter for the petrol, the next question for me is how often do you cycle the anti-freeze/anti-coolant?

For oil I'd go for Shell Helix.

Anti-freeze needs testing to establish it's property's really, I'm just considering changing mine which is 6 years old and covered 60k. That said my van is 17 years old and on 180k on the same anti-freeze..

I was thinking of going fresh with anti freeze, I've just bought my mk5 and its covered 84k, I ended up getting mobil1 5w30 engine oil as it was recommended by a few friends and had awesome reviews
