Took my 1.9 TDI Ref Sport in for its 1st service yesterday at Kings Portsmouth.

Loan car arranged, Altea 1.6 Ref Sport. Very noisy on the road, possibly underinflated tyres when reported upon delivery, otherwise nice car, will stick with Diesel though.

Anyway back to matters of service. when I went to collect the car, i was asked if I had been given a price prior, I had and when I told them they were amazed, we don't do one for that price. Anyway we progressed through and total bill came to £ 215 inc £ 15 waiver insurance on Courtesy car.

I then asked what the cost would be for the 20k service next year, it was then that we discovered there to be a dramatic difference between service costing dependent on the Model Year of the vehicle. So much to say that once we had deciphered that my Altea is a MY2007, though registered in Sept 2006, the price of the service was £40 cheaper.

It appears SEAT had rethink on servicing costs for the 2007 MY and reduced their pricing structure.

Therefore next years 20K service will only be approx. £20 more, I just have to remember to inform then that it is a 2007 MY Altea.

So if anyone is in the process of booking their service on their 06/56 Altea, get it checked out first if your is a 2007 MY.

Anyway great customer service from start to finish fro Kings SEAT Portsmouth.

I paid up front for 10,000, 20,000 and 30,000 services for £500, including pick up my car and return...

Not a bad price I thought...

My two local dealers quoted £311 and £290 (ish) for a 20k service on my FR TDi. Local independent quoted £148.

I wonder what extra you get for double the price?

Does seem to be a big gap for two cars which don't have many differences other than software. Geography could be a contributing factor - these dealers are at the London end of the M4 corridor.

Ripped off mate, the 1st service is only an oil change, don't tell me they charged you £215 to change the oil ?
