Servicing Costs

Wee Brucie bonus this week. Refused to pay the £165 Seat wanted for the first service of my FR so contacted my local garage who promptly ordered a Seat service pack and charged me £90 for the service. Warranty still valid and £75 better off.

Shows the advantage of shopping around and how inflated the dealers prices are.

I took out a personal loan cause by the time I'd got the spec I wanted and taking into account I do 12k miles a year at least, PCP was more expensive. Plus I don't like paying for something and getting nothing at the end.

VW approved service centre - haha I laugh at that. How hard is it to change the oil, a filter or two and give the car a quick cursory once over? This is why I shop around for deals that don't tie you into things like that.

I thought there was a court ruling a few years back which prevented manufacturers from specifying that it has to be a VW approved dealer. As long as you can demonstrate that OEM parts have been used, it's my understanding that it shouldn't be an issue.

That being said, I still always go to a main dealer because personally I prefer knowing that if something goes wrong, I've got a higher chance of getting it sorted, personal preference at the end of the day (well that, and having services included in my purchase!).

Thinking same as you.
Always nice to save a bit of money but if there are any software updates or recalls these will be sorted out by SEAT at the same time as the service. And if/when you come to sell, all those SEAT stamps in the service booklet are going to be a bit more re-assuring to any potential purchaser.

Im of same opinion i wouldn't by a cupra or fr without main dealer history. been loads of deals with 2 years free servicing or 3 years for 99 quid deals on of late. i got a 3 service deal for 12.99 a month over 28 payments so saved me cash instead of paying 169 199 then 139 plus i don't miss 12.99 coming out the bank as much as 200 quid in 1 hit

Do people shop around? First service on my FR cost €99, or about £80 at a main dealer.

Warranty will cover you on any car as long as original parts are used wherever you get it serviced however if you need good will in a couple of years time if you don't have a main dealer stamping the book you won't have any luck. Well worth any small amount extra on top of an Indy.

Personally I buy the parts on my own (but only good vendors and original ones) and service in approved centre + always negotiate price of service.
