Shorter oil filter

I've fitted a sandwich plate to my mk4 Ibiza Cupra 1.8t to oil temp and pressure gauges, however after doing this the oil filter is now too long to get back on. Anybody come across this problem before? If so do you have a solution or part number for a different filter that is okay to use please?

Any vag group filter should fit mate, pretty sure all the spin on ones are the same thread and diameter

Okay cheers mate, is there any sort of downside to having a smaller filter? Will it affect the filtration at all?

Obviously a bigger filter means bigger surface area for filtration, but if you do reg oil changes like every 6k or so it wouldn't be a problem, the standard filters do seem pretty huge anyway haha

Okay thanks for the help, so the filter off a smaller engine 1.4 for example would be fine to use providing frequent oil changes? Yeah it is quite a large filter to be fair lol

Yeah should be fine, seen cars with bigger engines and smaller filters than we have.
