Having done this I'm not sure about it, but I wrapped the centre console in Brushed Aluminium vinyl. Did it with the vents, door trim and speaker surrounds where it looks good, but not sure about the console.

It just kinda looks like the light coloured OEM consoles.

The steering wheel trim is daily removed too. Depends if you would prefer to be able to return it to stock when selling as you could get a couple of colour match rattle cans and spray some parts.
Websites like--- http://www.carpaintrepair.co.uk/acatalog/Car-Spray-Paint.html --- you give them your reg etc and they can mix up matching paint.

I sprayed my steering wheel trim gloss black and wrap the centre (FR badge) white to make it a little different (although your's may already be gloss black)
Appreciate your comment was seven years ago. I have a facelift MK2 so we may be talking about different steering wheels. Mine has a small silver triangular plastic bit at the bottom of the wheel. Does this come off? I'm not likely to set air bag off?
