Im getting sick of replacing gearboxes on my 2001 ibiza 1.4s and is leaving me with no money! Can anyone suggest a permanent solution to this!

You aint allowed to say stop driving it, burn it or sell it, like the guys at work!

lol

Only way that i could think of when i was in that situation is to gte some diesel main bearings in there as they can take more of a beating than the petrol ones. Dont know how or if they would go straight in tho

gearbox

no **** m8. same problem here, there like chickens teeth get hold of aswell mines in the garage at tho mo.
Apparently it is a commonfault with the mk3 ibizas and vw polos so dnt think there is alot you can do to be honest. listen to ur work m8s.

i went through 3 gear boxes in my 1.4

after the 3rd went I f00ked it off for a Cupra :D

they're pretty weak, that said - what's failling on them?

have you considered driving consideratly?

Dont drive them like a cupra lol, they aint meant for it! Having said this before i learned i ragged the arse off of my 1.4 MK2 over 30,000 miles and it caused me no issues, dunno if the MK2 boxes are different or fittable but could be an answer.

Diesel boxes are strong but again not sure which if any would go on.

Cant sell it, i'd get nothing for it! Gearboxes ar easy to find just phone TRAYNORS scrap yard there in N.I for anyone in england. I waited 10 years just to get my licence so i dont like driving hard cause i like it so much!

i dnt like the gear boxes on ibiza i ant had mine 5 mins when i bought it b4 it was up on the ramps but i had the problem of a grub screw on it coming lose and not holding it in gera but its fine now only the odd grinding in reverse :D

Try upgrading the engine mounts, and get it as stiff as possible. Less movement in the engine the better. Just a suggestion!

Do the bearings overheat then? Or they just soft?

Anyone ever seen one of these gearboxes opened up? Did you notice any colouring to the failed components?

?? are you trying to drive your 1.4 like a super car ?? cos it aint, surley they shouldnt brake that often under normal driving ?
