Sidelight not working, but bulb is OK

I got the dashboard warning about my offside front sidelight bulb, and sure enough when I looked it was not working.
However, I put in a new bulb and it's still not working. Tried the old bulb it in the other side and it worked - so it's definitely not a problem with the bulb.
Some research leads me to believe that the sidelight are on the same fuse as the main lights, so that rules out a fuse problem too.
Does anyone have any other ideas about why this would not be working?
Thanks in advance, P.

assuming you have the prefacelift headlights, there are 2 sidelights in each headlight.
only one on each side will put up a bulb warning light.
i dont know if it is pot luck, but on mine it's not the same bulb on each headlight
i.e. on the nearside headlight, the bulb closest to the centre of the car will show a warning on the dash if it blows, the bulb closest to the wheel will not, but it is the opposite with the offside headlight.
couple of google images below show the sidelight bulb placement

Thanks for the reply.

I have the xenon headlights, and there seems to be only one sidelight bulb.
