Haha, I'm only 17.. Do you have a box fitted to your car with the co-op?

i wouldnt bother with one mate, they sent me a leaflet, basically unless you drive like a saint, your insurance will go up and do you really want a third party computer plugged into your ECU? it sounds like a ploy to get girls who drive 1.0 corsas around town at -0.345 mph to pay and perhaps get cheaper insurance. if you read the small print if you were to say go over 100mph on the odd occasion, coop could pass on your data so no one would ever insure you...

Maybe if ppl didn't go over 100 mph insurance wouldn't be so high?

I think it's a great idea stop these stupid youths growing up thinking it'll never happen to me....... Grumble bla bla bla a sign on the back of the car to say I'm doing the limit **** OFF ha

I'm 17, us young people get quite a lot of stick for 'racing about', but we aren't all that bad! Some of us are sensible!!!

Anyway, I'm getting my 2008 sportrider ibiza mk4 this weekend, insurance is £2500 with elephant, which is actually quite good for me, considering for my mates its £4000... Bit weird.

Yeah anyway, every driver likes to put their foot down occasionally, I do it in my mums 1.6 astra from time to time for a laugh when it is safe, but most 17 year olds are sensible, law abiding drivers, it's just a small minority that give us a bad name! :(

yeah i think every guy when they are young likes to race around a bit im 19 i vowed never to pay >1000 for insurance my first car was clio 1.4 16v and second peugeot 206 2.0 hdi and ive never paid more than £986. if you shop around insurance is relitivley easy to obtain for cheapish

I had one of those boxes in my last car, not through the co-op though. Could go as far as saying they where dangerous in my eyes, I hope they have developed them since then.

Main flaws:

- It didn't know the speed limit so you could do 69mph in a 30 without a peep from it but do 75 in a 70 and it got all flashy and angry.

- It didn't like accelerating and turning so pulling out of a junction according to the system was better done really slow so you get in everyone's way, if someone had to emergency to stop to avoid you for example this wouldn't be captured. Not sure how they could improve this without external sensors...

- It didn't like when you braked hard so in instead of braking a little too much and setting off the meter you would push the limit of what was just enough braking. This was probably the most dangerous thing it encouraged you to do

did your premium go up? why would you let someone monitor your driving in a fr :p

Last car lol

It was when I was sharing a 1.25 fiesta with my lil bro who was learning to drive at the time so he was 17 & I was 19-20. It reduced the premium by £500 to £2k by fitting it and there was the potential for more discount by driving perfectly.

I've got the Co-Op box this year.
Saved us £1k, and let's me have a N.c.b the first year.
Unlike Matt's, it does know exactly what road you're on, and there are tolerances. I can usually get away with doing 82mph on the dual carriage, and 36 on a 30, and 70 in a 60. So it's not bad.
It's not as bad as everyone says, and at the end of the day, I drive a 1.2, so it doesn't really bother me that much.

But it still doesn't stop me driving like a tit. :D

Insurance for you young guys is just silly these days.

My stepson passed his test and we got him a 55 plate Colt 1.1 which cost £2k. Cheapest insurance we could get was Elephant 10 months bonus exc with 2 of us as named drivers. Cost £3,300 for 10 months insurance :wtf:

Just renewed mine with Admiral £230

I managed to get 700 pound for the year fully comp down from 1700 from my 1.6 audi
0 no claims bonus and 3 years driving

haha, see for me one of the boxes was £57 more exspensive!!
I am paying £1650 for my 1.2... And its yellow so surely that should put it down because people would be able to spot it :D

But insurance is just soo stupid!! :ban:

I'm glad I'm not that young again! I had to pay £2000 TPFT for the insurance on my 2.2 VTEC at 19 but happily it dropped 50% each year after that for about 2 years.

Are these quotes you're getting for FC or TPFT? There's a lot to take into consideration when opting for FC or TFPT - price of the car, price of repairing it, cost saving between FC and TFPT, risk to NCB in the event of a claim, cost increase if you have an accident, etc.

I always bought cheap cars when I was younger and insured them TPFT. If I had an accident I'd just write the car off and buy another one or repair it myself if I could. Obviously if an accident involves a third party then this is where it gets tricky. If you have a dent which involves solely yourself then there's less hassle.

Can't wait till next year.
Ran some quotes on Aviva, and got a BMW 320d for £1k. And that's insurance group 13! Can't wait to get a faster car. :drive1:

Not a bad price. Was looking for a 330 before we opted for the Cupra (the other half wouldn't let me buy a BMW for some reason!).
