Slipping out of 5th gear - Cordoba TDi

Hi folks,
I have a problem with my '97 Cordoba 1.9 TDi in that it has started to slip out of 5th gear when the throttle is pressed. Other gears are ok.
You can see the gearstick move down towards the centre point and then it just sips out of gear, disengages the engine.

Does anyone know what this is? And, do I have to replace the whole gearbox? I hope not!

Does anyone have any ideas about this problem? I'm getting tired having to frive holding the gear stick in place! Hoping to not have to replace the whole gearbox. Can it be fixed by only changing the linkage? If that is the right term!

I'd be grateful for any ideas
