small problem

recently when i turn the engine off on my mk3 cupra i get a banging noise like the exhaust is hitting something underneath could this be an engine mount gone ? It is also does it when i start it just not as bad, there seems to be abit of play when i rock the engine aswell.

Sounds like engine mount how much can u move it. Does it knock when you load it up when driving.

Could be down pipe hitting the bulkhead??

Yeah ive got this noise too, only seems to happen when i pull away say on a slight hill, or pull away hard. Get a slight knock, but never hear it when im driving at all or when i turn the engine off.

yep exactly the same... is this just the down pipe then? dont want to use garages anymore so might get it on the old jacks at the weekend and have a look!

If you have an aftermarket down pipe have a look in the engine bay and see if it's touching the bulkhead firewall part

Sounds like an engine mount, but ive replaced them so cant be, can it?

Had a quick look at the dwnpipe, it looks close but not sure if its that or not, but saying that it will expand when hot. Going to have a better look when the lights better. I thought it sounded more like it was coming from the o/s of the vehicle tho

this is confusing as i had a look earlier engine mounts ok but is when i pull away in first gear or on a hill its only been recent not for the whole time i have owned the car... i think i will try and pin point the sound but cant be in and out of the car at the same time.. grrr

I mentioned the down pipe as mines touches the bulkhead when cold....just cause of the diameter and the effect of the solid engine mount

If your down pipe is touching the bulk head you will have vibration throught the dash inside the car.

i found the problem it was a t clamp vibrating on the engine when starting and pulling away.. its just i had intercooler blow off tge turbo so many times all sorted now
