Looking for people that have experience of getting the windscreen in Mk3 Cupra changed.
Had a pheasant suicide into me head on yesterday - wind assisted by storm Barbara, no chance to avoid the SOB. My 280 has every electronic gadget going since it was a show model before I bought it, and it's tinted too. Will an Autoglass replacement have the right arrangements to be able to accommodate the electronics or is it necessary to go to SEAT direct?
Cheers

The electronic bits on the screen shouldn't present any problems for a competent windscreen fitter or even an incompetent one, just be sure to let then know it has a RHL sensor.
More of a concern is how they take the old screen out, some will butcher it out and scratch through to the bare metal, they won't care as the new screen will cover it, but you will in a few years as the rust takes hold.
I'd look to use a small independent windscreen guy, tend to value their reputation and take more care.
Your insurance will probably push you to use a large company as they have billing in place and get a huge discount
But much like when you have an accident, you can choose who you want to fit the screen, although you may have to pay up front and recover it from your insurance .

Just to add, sometimes it's cheaper or same price as the windscreen insurance excess to go directly to the windscreen place, they are not always as expensive as people think.
My last one was £65 fitted, although that wasn't on a seat

Thanks DW. The clip of the screen I'd guess it'll be a nightmare to remove, it got pulverised and sprayed glass fragments inside the car too. I'd be blind now if I hadn't been wearing sunglasses. Good point though and well taken, will watch them replace it and make it clear that gouging the tin won't be looked on favourably. Would prefer Seat to do it and have an open question to the Durham garage but my insurers might insist on autoglass from what their outsourced claims dept said.

Sounds like you were really lucky, good luck with it getting I sorted.
As for the main dealer, you probably and understandable think they are the main dealer so are the best place, often turns out to be the worst as they rarely fit windscreens so don't have the experience but they will give it a go :-(
Although if your lucky they may farm it out to a proper windscreen fitter.
As for you insurance company, they probably will insist on autoglass doing it, - it suits them, sometimes they even make a profit from your misfortune - if you don't want that you need to stand you ground and point out you have a right to chose who does it.
Although some have started to put in debatable - legally speaking - clauses that may say " we will only pay upto £××× if you choose not to use out recommended glass repairer" or stuff along those lines
Read through your policy carefully to see what it does and doesn't say :)

I had to have my screen replaced Monday last week. Previously had a screen done in August.

I had it done at Autoglass but they can't do the ADAS system recalibration mobile, I had to take my car to their local ADAS center near Leicester.

First time (August) was a pattern screen and I had some ADAS problems a few weeks after it was done. Autoglass only warranty their calibration for the day it is done. Local Seat dealer re-cal'd it but it failed again. Was booked in with them to do it again but then got a huge stone chip, so had to cancel the booking. Seat dealer did not know anything about ADAS and I had to guide them on their own process ( I have some ADAS experience from my day job at JLR)

Last week I had Autoglass fit a genuine Seat screen and do a fresh ADAS cal. Everything has been fine since.

So I would recommend that you ask for a genuine Seat screen and take it to your local Autoglass ADAS center and have them do the work.

Howdy Bloodonthetrack,

I can highly recommend these - http://auto-screen.co.uk/

Owners called Mike, 25 years in the business, I wouldn't let 'Autoglass' or the likes anywhere near any car let alone my new Leon. These carry out work all over the UK, Mike's knowledge and expertise is second to none and when I worked in the motor trade (where we first met) he did all our dealerships windscreens and all our other dealerships for that matter. The last job he did for me was a couple of years ago on an E39 BMW M5 and the quality of the work was excellent - as expected. I've seen and heard horror stories of these BIG windscreen companies spending money on marketing and not training / wages leading to poor jobs - condensation / leaks etc. Feel free to PM me and I'll give you his direct (mobile) number - to just call him for a chat and take it from there.......

Let me know if I can be any help....

Cheers & MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Getting an original is half the battle. I was told this by a BMW dealership and insisted that autoglass fitted one. They huffed a bit and checked with the insurance company who agreed. This happened twice in a year. On both occasions they sent out experienced fitters, probably because they knew the value of what they were installing. No problems with the auto wipers and headlights that I had been warned about.

The problem is that if the screen is not perfect where the sensors are, then the refractive index of the glass may be incorrect and so mess up the systems that rely upon it for their accuracy.

On the plus side, you are alive, the car saved you and your sight

Seat don't make windscreens, they get them from the same place as Autoglass etc, difference being the name stamped on them, I worked with the supply chain on many automotive customers and closely with pilkington glass in the past.
I had an issue with some sensors on a BMW replacement years ago, BMW got autoglass in because they are not experts in fitting screens.

Co incidentally the wife works at a windscreen place and have calls from people with very high end cars whose insurance put them through her company, never any problems as the process is quite similar on most cars, it's just what's attached to them electronically wise, they will have no issues, if it's a factory tint then they will be able to get the same glass

I have now my 3rd windscreen in my Cupra in 8 months time, just bad luck.
Camera (when you have one for lane assist) does not need calibration. It does it by itself automatically I am told by as well dealer as Autoglass.
