i want to get my front bumper smoothed... id deffinitely leave it to a bodyshop tho mate... fibre glass as much as possible and as little filler as possible... otherwise itll sink... which fibreglass will do anyway but at least youre reducing the chances or time frame...

thats the only thing putting me off is the filler sinking...
and id deffinitely never spray a whole bumper myself, youll never get it spot on and youll notice it all the time... :D my 2p

Could do that. Much much stronger, I've plastic welded the side skirt jacking point flaps smooth and retextured them.

I was gonna do the front bumper to, was going to cut out the recess and just move it forward and weld it on, sand it down and smooth it with bumper filler so it's more flexible.

kyle, if you did cut out the recess and move it forward, how would you get it to follow the curve of the bumper as the number plate recess is flat? i know its flexible but would it flexible enough to follow the lines of the bumper? sounds silly but could you not put it in the oven (gas mk7, turning frequently lol) just warm enough to make it bend into the desired shape?? what you reckon??

what plastic is best to use for this type of plastic welding?

if you plan on doing a bumper then check on the back of it and it will be written on it what plastic it is 9 times out of 10 it'll be abs plastic, just go to the scrappy and cut a lump off a smashed bumper [B)]

Plastic Weld it

Get another front bumper and cut the plate recess from it, then stick and clamp it to fill your current recess.

Cut strips of plastic from the spare bumper and then use them to fill the gap around the two parts you have stuck together (this will take an hour or so of melting with a soldering iron.

Then more strips and use it like solder to really get enough plastic in there and fill in all the little gaps

then rub down smooth.

Need minimal filler on it and it will flex as per your normal bumper (as it is all the same plasitic)
means much less likely to crack etc

Filler or fiberglass is a waste of time.

Wouldn't start smoothing much else, as Jenk said it will look full on monkey balls!!!

Edit:
3M Carbon wrap looks good.

Can post a pic up later

Your front bumpers mint, my next stage in the smoothing process is priming it ready for paint but before i do that im not sure if i have the exact lines wen sanding the filler.. ther are a few tiny holes in the filler will Primer fill them in ?

nope, add more filler, then sand again, make sure no air can get in, otherwise when painted and during heat/slight damage it will crack, so you will be doing it again

it's all down to how you prep things when painting, if prep is crap, paint will be too!

for pin ***** holes you need a different filler, something like dolfin glaze, normal filler will just to the same again, and the glazer is less prone to sinking....

and as for the lower grill, mine aint had the slats in for well over a year, looks ok in my opinion, damn sight easier to clean, i done it to be different!

so suck my hairy chimp eggs :D

Is def illegal, i've been pulled for it myself,
Plate is supposed to displayed on the most forward aspect of the car.

As for pin holes, as Crezz says dolphin glaze or comparable is the only way.

Do the bumper as I said and you shouldn't really have that problem

lol at this thread, Jenk was being ironic in his first post, if you look at his sig, he has done it :D also the bumper on the 6n polo is a polo 16v bumper with the side grills filled and smoothed. the polo classic front bumper doesent actually fit the polo 6n :D but will fit facelift ibizas if anyone fancys a go at that :D like i got hehe.

sorry to be picky, my VAG OCD kicks in when i get a chance to point out really small and useless bits of info lol, comes from working in the trade :D :D
