Soft-Close (Damped) Glove Box?

So, recently I was ripping out bits of trim from my Ibiza (as you do), when I noticed a mechanism for damping that has clearly gone unused on the glove box. I hope the picture makes it clear. There is a toothed part that is currently doing nothing, and a shaft for a damping cog that currently has nothing on it. Does anybody know if there is a part that can be bought to fit this assembly? It must be there for something, even for another VAG group car!?

9N Polo should be a good source of bits as I seem to remember that wife's old Polo (now gone) had a soft open glove box. It looks like the missing cog mounts on that unused pillar, maybe check a "same age" Polo 9N parts listing just in case you can buy the individual parts from VW dealer.

The equivalent polo has a 'brake element' on the glove compartment, part number 6Q2858309

It could be unrelated, but it's the only relevant part I can see in the diagrams/ descriptions.

Otherwise, it's possible the whole glove compartment is treated as a single part.

A visit to a dealer's parts department is your best bet.

Yes! Thank you, this is just what I was after - I can only assume that it's the same part. One thing I would say is that the part you have listed is for LHD vehicles, I think the UK version is 6N2858309. Where did you get the pricing from? Do you think Dave from Seres could source this part? Thanks

I've looked on the VW 9N Polo section of the parts cat and found, "brake element (RHD) 6Q2 858 309" also, to retain this you would need "securing pin 1C1 880 802".

Why not just drop into your local VW dealer and get them to order these two parts in for you, you would need to pay up front and if these parts don't work for your car you will have to absorb the cost.
