Software issues or what?

Today is only third day with this nice car, but on my way to work 30 last night there was some strange cracking/banging noise from the dash speaker, and later “emergency call” error. After engine restart this error disappeared. Last night temperature outside went down to -6, and display was frozen for 5 min. Is that normal behaviour for this car when the temperature goes below 0? 😅 I found some information in Google, that need try to update the software, but I can't understand how to do that. And I have already purchased for Cupra connect. Booked now for Saturday in Cazoo (from where I got this car) for diagnostic. But I am so frustrated now

By the looks of your software version (1899), it seems the car is not new - that's what I thought when I read "3rd day with the car".
Indeed, a visit to the dealership should bring you an Infotainment software update to at least version 1940, if not even 1969 which is already available on some cars. Just tell them about the system being unresponsive and sometimes frozen for several minutes. If you had any random Infotainment reboots, that's even more convincing for the dealer to updaye your software - it's a well-known problem.
The SOS (or energency call) error is a different story if I remember correctly - AFAIK the software on the SOS module should be also updated, and in the worst case - if it is already up to date - the module should be replaced. That's another known issue over the entire VAG "collection" using identical electronics (Golf, Octavia etc.).
Good luck with the dealership, and if they play dumb just try to find another one, because what you described is really well known on these cars.

Last but not least: enjoy you new car!!!

The problems only start when you add a drivers profile, never occurs on the test drive. The good news is the freezing is completely fixed in update 1940 ...the freezing infotainment system, not the freezing weather, unfortunately. The SOS speaker popping is solved by an OTA update (which could be forced by the dealership service)

P.S. Your maps is out of date so get the car on WiFi for that.

Yeah it’s a new car for me, but it's second-hand car yes. I am second owner. 😅 Yes if they turn me down on Saturday, I need to go to official cupra garage then.

Yes, but what I have noticed, this noise only comes out when car is connected to the Apple Carplay. And I am not sure that dealership from where I bought this car able to update software? Need go straight away to Cupra official dealership?

I would find your closest official Seat Cupra dealership if I were you.

The service at most traders just isn't comfortable dealing with any software diagnosis on modern vehicles that isn't already a customer facing experience from the manufacturer. i.e. Even though it's a relativity simple update to put on a USB stick, only the maps updates are customer facing for CUPRA owners.

The infotainment updates are closer to firmware updates so there's no DIY download officially. (There is unofficially) So it's going to rely on some kind of manufacturer workflow and only the official dealers and specialists have the process afaik.

Thank you. Cupra official dealership said that need to book an appointment, next available date for software diagnostic 11 March 🤦‍♂️ I am happy to do unofficially, but if something going wrong I will in a trouble 🫣

Software bugs are a strange state of affairs.

One point is that this is such a widespread but relatively common fault, that clearly affects much of the MQB-Evo fleet. So waiting times are huge, due to high volume.

Another point is the nature of the fix breaks most risk assessments for most independent garages - being that a failed software update has the possibility of immobilizing the car, no matter how small the risk actually is. It's not a fluid exchange or a new tire. It vastly narrows the specialist locations where the update can be applied.

I also know the specialists / technicians aren't plentiful; some of them are only available maybe 1 or 2 days a week at each dealership.

So from the dealerships perspective, I can see why not talking about it, or at least, limiting the scope in any way, is their way of managing the volume of cars. It is what it is.

Yeah just updated mine to 1969 manually. Will check how it works later when I am going to work. Hopefully, everything is fixed.

Good stuff, I'm also waiting (hoping) to get 1969 when I visit the dealer early next month to improve infotainment responsiveness, as well as to discuss the purple ambient lighting.

I wouldn't be surprised if your symptom remains though - speaking as somebody who got 1940 and still had the SOS faults, before an OTA update finally fixed it for good.

The first was updated from 1899 to 1940, and I was disappointed with the laggy touchscreen, he just didn’t want to respond to me I found 1969 in this forum, downloaded and installed. Seems much better, but still waiting for a test drive Fingers crossed no more knocking sound and sos error

Yup, don't worry it will be fixed in time.

Keep your dealership booking in the calendar. I don't know if they open a case with HQ but reporting it could trigger the SOS system OTA update request, which you need.

Yeah Cazoo checked my car yesterday, and they found some error code and referred me to Cupra Garage. Now need a wait for a call from them. And yes I have disabled the esim and put the car in privacy mode, and there no more of this noise and sos errors.

Oh please keep us updated on the ambient lighting query. It's *gotta* be something as simple as a software update of something. I really can't see how having H56 hardware means the RGB lights in your dashboard can't display the exact mix of red, green and blue to create purple. So silly.

If you are successful, I hope you post the backup from OBDeleven too!

Yes I do have a backup of all 236 adaptations from my Central Electrics module. If I get purple, I should be able to do a comparison and go straight to the answers, so fingers crossed!

I need to do a full backup actually in case I miss something. Failing that, there is a user on these forums who has the ideal colour selection.

A few weeks away yet. My full backup is done. To my disappointment, it didn't backup any of my (09) adaptations like my earlier backup, but no worries.

I'm confident nothing in basic setting is going to change, all 5 channels are active. I don't have any long coding to backup either.

I have discovered something important though; HMI versions. The menu is accessed by holding down the corner home screen/apps button. There is a variety of categories such as:

HMI software
software base
CGRun number
skin editor
skin model
skin build
skin short
skin SPF filename
text transmission number

I have a backup of this info too.

It's clear from some of filenames I have a version dated from 2023 02 06. However I'm unsure if the 1940 software update affects any of this... if I get update 1969 AND purple becomes available in my colour selection - I'm not going to able to discern what changes occurred. Similarly, if purple selection is nothing to do with adaptations and could in fact be a "skin update" there is likely nothing we can fix ourselves.

So I'm just trying to get ahead of things here; I will compare adaptations regardless, but I have a feeling this might not be resolvable with OBD11. The least we gain is knowledge that we should be asking our local dealerships for a HMI skin update, probably.
