Milton keynes!
Well due to finding the house of our dreams it had to go! costing me far too much than it should of been:( insurance wise was £85 a month i was putting £40 worth of petrol in a week! (will not miss that one bit!) plus the repayment of £180..... thats £425 alone not including tax, tyres etc` Bit gutted but at the same time relieved! Lost alot of money on it but hey thats depreciation for you! bought it brand new 3 months ago and sold it to the dealer for 9300 :( only had 1700k on the clock, not all bad though i pick up my new toy next wednesday for a bargain too its a 1996 mk3 golf cabrio 1800, and its in that lush vr6 purple too :) ill post picks up once i get it clean and given it a good service!

Two most expensive purchases (usually) are house then car. Houses go up in value, cars don't. So you've sold the car to put money towards the house. You'll recoup the money lost. Think of it that way. I sold a car to pay cash for double-glazing, otherwise it would have been finance.

Did you sell it back to the same dealer you bought it off? Just have to forget they've got money off you twice in 3 months!:(

Milton keynes!
yeah sold it back to the dealer they gave me the best price and felt looked after... ripped off but in a nice way lmao ill post pics up once i have picked it up cleaned it and added some az_mk touches! its cool because me and the wife to be have got a decent car for long journeys, so this really can be my toy... esp when i have enough dough and a garage in the new house to put a bigger lump in! ill still be on the forum though esp the detailing bit!

Not to rub salt into the wound, but I got £9000 for mine but thats as a trade-in, and it's 12 months old! Curbed wheels (not my fault) and slight dent on drivers side wheel arch (my fault) lol
Good luck tho! New house, that's a while off for me

Perhaps we're too negative about our cars and go looking for faults?

Got to admit there seems to be plenty of us reporting things that go wrong though. Are we any more negative than other forums?

At least most of the times we find an answer to our problems on the forum or at least other people that have the same problem! Its better that way.
- :D team work!

Sorry to hear about this mate :( but at least you stayed with VAG.:)
insurance wise was £85 a month i was putting £40 worth of petrol in a week!
As a point of interest is there any difference in running costs?
You'll be driving another 1.8 VAG petrol engine (all-be-it an older one) and it's a convertible which normally puts up insurance.
Plus I'm thinking the road tax may be higher.

Regards Guy.

Well its a 1.8 12v i believe, and the beeza was a 1.8 20v turbo, pretty sure there will be a big difference there! and as for insurance £650 fully comp.... cant all be bad!

I'm in exactly the same boat, yet the only debt I have is my car! Only just started saving money (not got a well paid job) lol, I'm 23 and living at home with the 'rents...allot of people have their own houses by then but they tend to drive not so nice cars! lol either that or they're paid allot more than me and can afford both! lol

yeah i turn 24 on monday and im having a mini midlife crisis coz i still live at home, most my friends are in the same boat though. i earn quite a reasonable wage i would say and although my car costs a fortune its the price of property at the moement that makes it impossible, so it not the cars fault (or thats what i keep telling myself!!

Happy birthday for Monday dude!
Property prices, ha! Tell me about it, over here it's like flippin Southern England prices! A decent 3 bed is like £350k, well expensive!
I'm enjoying my car, and getting on with my work can't say anymore than that, house will be like when I'm 30 or summat! lol

Cheers mate! my work has a company over there and a few people have told me u need to be minted to stay there!

worst case scenario for me i'll be 27 when my finance is finished! but hopefully i'll be out b4 then.

The UK is terrible, i work (reasonably) hard, earn a decent wage, pay my taxes and i cant afford to run a nice car and have my own place! if we lived in the states we would probably be runnin some kinda 6L muscle car n have a 4 bedroom house from a minimum wage job!

anyway rant over! good look with the GTI by the way mate.
