The car:
Seat Ibiza St, Style, 1.2 E Ecomotive TDI 75 HP

4 months old, from 2012.

Problem:
Strange resonans when accelerating

I first encountered the problem 2 weeks ago when I was accelerating during gearshift from 2 to 3 gear. Suddenly I heard a loud resonans traveling from the engine and through the dashboard and into the passenger door.

I stopped the car, put it in neutral and started to accelerate. What I discovered was: at 2500 rpm - 3000 rpm, a strange resonans appeared, sounding like a mix of plastic and metal vibrating. As it appeared, the resonans came from the bottom right corner, passenger side, and traveled as stated, into the passenger door. The sound got lounder as I accelerated from 2500 - 3000 rpm.

The problem/resonans disappeared again as the engine got warm.

Its' the same every morning now... the first 10-15 minutes of driving, I get this resonans at 2500 rpm, and after 15 min it is gone.

Any advice on the matter or even the solution will be very gladly appreciated!

And by the way, I took the car to Seat and sadly, they couldn't figure out the problem in that narrow timeframe of 10-15 minutes. They heard the noise, but the engine was warm before they could locate the problem.

Regards, hope anyone out there can help - so I may give the local Seat dealer an idea, of where to look!

STATUS:
Problem still not solved. Car spent 3 days at Seat, but the resonance, is still there when reaching 2500 rpm, and with the engine cold.

Car will return to Seat... again

Problem still not solved, Seat have contacted the importer. More will follow...

Seat believe the problem is connected to the fuel hose.

SOLUTION:

Seat have stated, that the resonance is a direct result of cold wheather. The density of the fuel in cold wheater combined with the fuel pump working overtime, creates a resonance in the fuel hoses, which in some instances can be heard within the car.

The resonance can in most cases be removed by insulating the fuel hoses.

See how she preforms in good weather ? Have to say that when its freezing(all the time) my fr does seem to produce a rattle. Most of the time subsides when warmed up properly though ! Having said that it is petrol though.

What's the 1.2 TDI like ? Bet the fuel economy is belting !

Actually the problem was first encountered with the petrol versions. The TDI drives very well, at the economy is spot on.

The problem will very likely remove itself, when the wheather gets warmer. The fuelhoses will be insulated within the next couple of weeks.
